KGI predicts A10 chip with 3GB of RAM in iPhone 7

The next year's iPhone, let's call it an 'iPhone 7,' is expected to be outfitted with three gigabytes of RAM, according to the revered analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. If true, the iPhone 7 will pack in fifty percent more RAM than this year's iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus that sport 2GB of RAM.

According to Kuo' note issue to clients Wednesday, a copy of which was obtained by AppleInsider, this will help the new phone multitask even better than the current iPhone 6s, which has doubled the amount of RAM relative to last year's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple's refreshed 27-inch Retina iMacs can be configured with up to 32 gigabytes of RAM via the Apple Online Store.

Thankfully, these machines have changeable RAM slots due to the larger form factor, permitting users to double the RAM to 64 gigabytes total after the purchase with third-party RAM upgrades.

On the other hand, the new 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display uses soldered memory chips so you'll have to configure it with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM at the time of your purchase.

Safari. It's one of our go to apps, and arguably the most popular app on iOS. It's also one of the apps that has suffered the most over the past few years due to lack of resources. Safari has been starved for far too long, and its resulted in perpetual Safari tab refreshing and frustrated end users.

Starting with last year's iPad Air 2, Apple decided it was time to change that. It was time to feed Safari and other RAM starved apps. The results were great and immediately noticeable. It's one of the reasons that the iPad Air 2 can keep on trucking just fine without a yearly refresh.

Today, Apple extended the same favor to its most popular product, the iPhone. Like the iPad Air 2, the iPhone 6s benefits heavily from the extra gig of RAM.

iPad mini 4 performance: faster than last year’s model but slower than the iPad Air 2

I think we all pretty much expected the iPad mini 4 to be a little slower than Apple's still top of the line iPad Air 2, and some new benchmarks from Ars Technica back up that expectation. The iPad mini 4, which received little fanfare during last Wednesday's iPhone 6s event, ships with a new A8 processor and 2GB of RAM.

With its new specs in tow, the iPad mini 4 can benefit from one of the major changes in tomorrow's iOS 9 release—side-by-side multitasking. True, the iPad mini 4 may still come in second place when compared to its larger sibling, but this refresh is a marked improvement over its predecessors.

Confirmed: the iPhone 6s ships with 2GB of RAM

Good news for those worried about the RAM situation of the new iPhone 6s—it has been confirmed that both the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus will both sport 2GB of RAM. Well-known developer Hamza Sood confirmed the details by means of a tweet earlier today.

Apple rarely advertises the RAM contained in its products, but regardless of how Apple wants to downplay its importance, RAM is a big deal.

Adobe inadvertently leaks iPad Pro has 4GB of RAM

In addition to our discovery yesterday that the new Apple TV has 2GB of RAM, Adobe has inadvertently leaked that the iPad Pro has twice the RAM of the iPad Air 2, which has 2GB of RAM.

A press release published yesterday, which highlights its new Creative Cloud mobile apps, specifically mentions four gigabytes of RAM on the iPad Pro.

“iPad Pro is great for creative workflows with a high res 12.9″ touch screen display at 2732 x 2048 pixels, A9X chip, and 4GB RAM,” reads the press release. Soon thereafter, Adobe has updated the press release to no no longer mention 4GB of RAM.

Confirmed: the new Apple TV has 2GB of RAM

You'd be hard-pressed to find that piece of information on Apple's Tech Specs webpage for the new Apple TV, but newly posted documents related to third-party tvOS software development provide some interesting tidbits related to the device's underlying hardware.

In addition to the 64-bit A8 chip, the new box has two gigabytes of RAM, up from just one gigabyte of RAM inside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, both of which also use the A8 chip. The new Apple TV isn't exactly focused on multitasking so Apple most likely doubled the RAM to enable finer detail in games.

Apple's upcoming S-refresh to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus apparently includes two gigabytes of random-access memory (RAM), a feature long expected by Apple fans who have been eyeing top-end Android handsets with 3GB of RAM with envy. More RAM = better multitasking = longer battery life.

Furthermore, the phone ship with the Apple SIM which debuted alongside the iPad Air 2, as reported by AppleInsider quoting “a person familiar with Apple's future product plans” who in the past has provided “reliable info.”

Alleged iPhone 6 Geekbench suggests same 1GB of RAM, slightly higher 1.4GHz CPU frequency

Conveniently timed just ahead of Apple's big reveal at 10a. PT / 1pm ET, an alleged Geekbench benchmark of Apple's unreleased iPhone 6 smartphone surfaced online Tuesday morning. The scores suggest that the Apple-designed A8 chip powering the forthcoming handset still has the same 1GB of RAM as prior iPhones.

However, Apple seems to have increased the A8's clock frequency marginally, going from the 1.3GHz inside the iPhone 5s slightly up to 1.4GHz on the iPhone 6.

Geekbench scores come via the same Weibo user “zzray” who made a video of a nearly-assembled iPhone 6 booting to iOS 8 and running smoothly in spite of its bigger screen with more pixels.

Samsung said to supply RAM chips for iPhone 6

If a new supply chain report out of Asia Friday is to be trusted, Apple's arch-rival Samsung is supplying it with RAM chips for the upcoming iPhone 6 refresh. This comes as somewhat of a surprise given Apple's been fighting tooth and nail to supplant the South Korean conglomerate with alternative component suppliers amid intensifying competition, aggressive advertising and never-ending legal issues plaguing its relationship with Samsung.

New report claims second-gen iPad Air may feature 2GB of RAM

A new report is out this afternoon from Asian site TechNews.tw, claiming that it has received intel from Apple's supply chain suggesting that the second generation iPad Air could feature 2GB of RAM—double that of the current model.

According to the site, which doesn't have much of a track record when it comes to Apple rumors, the increase in RAM will be limited to the new iPad Air. The second-generation Retina iPad mini is expected to once again feature 1 GB of RAM...

The general consensus among watchers and analysts regarding the engine powering the next iPhone(s) is that Apple will use an in-house designed A8 processor (reportedly clocked at 2Ghz per core). And that's about everything we know thus far about the chip.
