Jailbroken iPad 3G Sends SMS

Dev Team member MuscleNerd managed to send text messages from a jailbroken iPad 3G. According to MuscleNerd, The MobileSMS.app from the iPhone doesn't run properly on the iPad so he had to use raw command lines via Terminal.

Since the AT&T plan that comes with the iPad 3G doesn't allow to send SMS, MuscleNerd used a T-Mobile SIM card that he cut down into a MicroSIM.

This is just the beginning. I'm sure we'll see more and more of these hacks

Dev Team Jailbreaks iPhone OS 4 In Just 19 Hours

That has to be one of the fastest jailbreak ever! Just about 19 hours after Apple gave us a sneak peek at the future of iPhone OS and made the beta available to developers, the Dev Team managed to jailbreak iPhone OS 4.

MuscleNerd just tweeted the following along with a video of a jailbroken iPhone running OS 4 and Veency, a VNC app for jailbroken iPhones.

Something you'll only find on JB 4.0: VNC :) http://is.gd/blzeg (BTW don't bother with betas, they're *very* buggy!)

There is no realease date and I don't think this jailbreak will even be made available until the official release of iPhone OS 4. Still, I'm getting all excited just thinking about it.

You're excited too, aren't you?

iPad Jailbreak Video

It didn't take too long for  the jailbreak community to come up with a jailbreak for the iPad. Last week I told you about Spirit, a jailbreak for iPhone 3.1.3, and today, MuscleNerd confirmed the iPad jailbreak using a variation of Spirit, originally developed by Comex.

Even better news is that this jailbreak can also be applied to every platform including the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G, and potentially to the iPad 3G.

Credit goes where it's due. This iPad jailbreak is a cross-team effort by @chronicdevteam, @comex, @chpwn, and the Dev Team.

If you were on the fence about buying an iPad, this might just be the reason you were looking for.

There is no estimated release date for this jailbreak. My guess is that these smart hackers will wait for iPhone OS 3.2, so Apple doesn't patch the firmware and render this jailbreak useless.

How exciting!
