Make Spotify’s Now Playing interface more OLED-friendly with Blackout

The Spotify Music app is one of the best alternatives to Apple Music in terms of online music streaming for the iPhone or iPad, and while the application itself already sports a somewhat ‘dark’ aesthetic, there are certainly some areas where it could do with improvement for those who like using dark mode or who use an OLED display-equipped handset.

Blackout is a newly released and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer atebitsy that brings improved dark mode and OLED display support to the Spotify Music app, and it does so by providing users with an always-blacked out Now Playing interface background, as depicted by the before and after screenshot examples above.

Surenix launches Vantaye, a Dark Mode-friendly icon theme for all iOS & iPadOS devices

One of the takeaway new features that shipped with iOS and iPadOS 14 just a couple of weeks ago is the ability to “theme” your Home Screen’s app icons. This is one of many features from Apple’s latest and greatest mobile operating systems that seems heavily inspired by the jailbreak community. That said, it’s not surprising that some jailbreak community theme creators have started porting themes over to iOS and iPadOS 14.

Joining that list is esteemed graphic designer and theme creator Surenix, who just this week released a new Dark Mode-friendly theme for iOS and iPadOS 14 dubbed Vantaye. This theme puts a darker spin on your handset’s Home Screen app icons, and if you recall a theme for jailbroken devices that Surenix named Ayedapt that was released earlier this year, then some of these icons probably look familiar…

DarkSwitch commands iOS’ dark/light modes based on display brightness

One of my favorite features to ship with iOS 13 is native dark mode support. Not only is it something that I’ve wanted to have for several years, but it plays so nicely with the OLED display that comes standard in Apple’s flagship handsets for both enhanced aesthetics and lengthened battery life.

One way that I think dark mode could be improved, however, is with some kind of tool that automatically switches between dark and light mode depending on display brightness, as it would improve interface visibility in certain situations.
