Using the iPhone 6s 3D Touch display to weigh items [Video]

A new app called allows iPhone 6s users to use the device's 3D Touch input for providing relative weight comparisons between objects. Don't throw out your digital scales, because this app doesn't provide precise weights for the objects placed on the iPhone 6s' screen, but it can be handy for comparing two or more objects at once to see which one weighs the most.

Aptly titled Plum-O-Meter, which is named after the fruit that is weighed during a demonstration video, the open source app uses the iPhone 6s's 3D touch to display the weights of plums relative to the the phone's maximum possible force. Of course, you don't have to use plums, you can use apples, oranges, fingers, or any other object weighing enough that's capable of being picked up by the capacitive touch screen.

Although there aren't any stock 3D Touch actions in iOS 9's Notification Center, many feel that more could be done with Apple's new deep press recognition in this area, and perhaps we'll see some additions in future iOS updates, but for now these features are only enabled via jailbreak tweaks.

3D Touch to Clear Notifications is a new tweak that, as its name implies, allows users to firmly press in Notification Center to remove all notifications, much like the current implementation in Apple Watch's notification shade.

Activator for iOS 9 gets a big update with 3D Touch support

A closer look at Activator’s new Application Shortcuts feature

Earlier today, we reported that Ryan Petrich had updated his beta repo, and with it, the Activator beta for iOS 9. The update brought overall compatibility to iOS 9, but more interestingly, it brought about a new feature called Application Shortcuts.

In our previous post about the iOS 9 compatible Activator beta, we briefly touched on the new Application Shortcuts, but in this post, I'd like to dive in a little deeper to show you exactly what these puppies can do, and why they're so cool—even for older pre-iPhone 6s devices.

In a nutshell, Application Shortcuts let you access the shortcuts that are normally only available to 3D Touch capable iPhones on the Home screen, merging them with Activator gestures. The result is a super-cool feature that will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the iOS 9-enabled Activator.

Ryan Petrich releases Activator beta for iOS 9 that includes new shortcut actions

If you've been waiting for Ryan Petrich to release an update to Activator, you've not been alone. The good news is that Ryan has just updated his beta repo with an iOS 9 compatible version of Activator and RocketBootstrap.

Many of the tweaks available on Cydia require Activator as a prerequisite, so not having it meant a lot of tweaks were simply unusable. Now that Ryan has updated Activator with iOS 9 compatibility, many of those tweaks will function like they should.

RevealMenu is yet another tweak that brings 3D Touch-like functionality to older devices

There are now several tweaks that attempt to bring the iPhone 6s' flagship feature to older devices. The latest such tweak is called RevealMenu, and it contains one particular feature that makes it unique when compared to some of the other 3D Touch-esque tweaks that I've tried.

RevealMenu allows users to long-press on an icon to invoke a 3D Touch-like overlay menu, but it also allows you to slide your finger directly to the menu without lifting your finger off the screen. In my opinion, that single gesture is what makes 3D Touch's shortcut feature really shine. Many of the other 3D Touch-inspired tweaks didn't allow you to do that, and that's what makes RevealMenu worth checking out.

Apple updates iWork for iOS with support for 3D Touch, multitasking and more

Apple on Thursday pushed out updates for its iWork for iOS apps, bringing Pages, Numbers and Keynote to version 2.6. The updates are nearly identical for each app, bringing about support for many new iOS 9 and iPhone 6s features including multitasking and 3D Touch.

According to the change logs, users can now edit their various iWork documents in-app while using new iOS 9 features like Slide Over and Picture in Picture on iPad (depending on model). The apps also support Bluetooth keyboard shortcuts, text selection and much more.

Forcy updated with haptic feedback and better 3D Touch emulation for older iPhones

Forcy, the jailbreak tweak that does its very best to emulate the 3D Touch experience on older iPhones, is now available with a few new anticipated features. Version 1.0.1 of Forcy brings a new preference panel, which allows users to configure the way the tweak works.

The initial version of Forcy featured no such preferences, in fact, after installation, there were no options for configuring the experience at all. With the new preference option, users can disable Forcy outright, toggle haptic feedback, and enable a swap invoke method that allows for a more true 3D Touch-esque feeling.

Forcy adds 3D Touch-inspired gestures to all iOS 9 devices

Forcy is a brand new jailbreak tweak, one of the first newly created tweaks for the iOS 9 jailbreak, that allows you to enable 3D Touch-inspired gestures on any iOS 9 device. The gestures, which are impressively similar to what you'd find on 3D Touch-enabled devices like the iPhone 6s, allow you to take advantage of the Home screen app icon shortcuts made popular on Apple's most recently released iPhone hardware.

Badland by indie developer Frogmind, is one of the best survival games on any platform. In Badland, the player flies around a little black creature named Clony through the surreal, beautifully rendered woods.

Tweetbot gains 3D Touch Home screen shortcuts, Peek and Pop support in the timeline

Following its launch of the major Tweetbot 4 update, now a universal app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, developer Tapbots today issued a timely update focused on 3D Touch.

If you own an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, you can now press Tweetbot's icon on the Home screen firmly to access the following handy shortcuts: Show Activity, Tweet Last Photo and Tweet.

If you have unread notifications sitting in Tweetbot, this menu will provide additional options to reply to a mention or reply via a Direct Message. In addition, Tweetbot now supports Peek and Pop gestures in the timeline.
