3D Touch

BlurTouchClean removes the blur from your Home screen’s 3D Touch menu backgrounds

Anyone with a 3D Touch-enabled device is likely familiar with the bevy of menu options that can be revealed by imposing a simple 3D Touch gesture on apps from the Home screen.

Whenever one of these 3D Touch menus is revealed, iOS blurs the background to draw your focus to the menu, but a new free jailbreak tweak called BlurTouchClean by CydiaGeek can remove the blur effect so you can continue to see everything residing behind the menu.

Google Maps gains 3D Touch place previews

Last week, I whined about Google dragging its feet when it comes to implementing support for important iOS features, like 3D Touch, in apps such as Gmail. Other iPhone and iPad apps from Google have been more aggressive in adopting 3D Touch features, including Maps. In the latest update, Google Maps was bumped to version 4.28 and now allows users who have an iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus to press places on the map to get quicker access to popular actions.

17 months later, Gmail gains a single 3D Touch shortcut

Google today refreshed its mobile Gmail app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on App Store, adding very limited 3D Touch support nearly a year and a half after Apple first brought pressure sensing to iPhone's display with the September 2015 release of iPhone 6s.

Owners of the iPhone 6s/7 series can now press Gmail's icon to quickly compose a message, but that's about it. Thank you, Google, but seriously?

In my view, Google doesn't really have a clue how to properly build 3D Touch gestures into Gmail in a manner that would save users time and boost their productivity.

The app still lacks Peek and Pop gestures., but we'll get those next year, right?

3DLight brings opacity to your widgets and 3D Touch menus

Apple has been putting a lot of focus on transparency in many of its modern iOS releases. It can be pointed out in many iOS UI elements, including your 3D Touch menus and the widgets you interact with on your Lock screen and in Notification Center.

Because the whole transparency thing might be getting a bit stale for some, a new free jailbreak tweak called 3DLight by Mohammad Ghzayel can help to change things up a bit by bringing some opacity to the interfaces that you’re typically used seeing distinct silhouettes through.

KGI: all 2017 iPhones to have wireless charging, iPhone 8’s 3D Touch pricier to build

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in a new note to clients, obtained by MacRumors, that all new models of iPhone introduced this year would feature wireless charging. In addition, the report cautions that production costs of iPhone 8's enhanced 3D Touch module might rise between 30 and 50 percent.

A report yesterday by FastCo stated Apple would pass any increased production costs stemming from iPhone 8's OLED screen and other hardware advances onto the consumer, speculating that the final sale price of iPhone 8 could pass $1,000 in US.

This tweak removes the “Share This App” option from 3D Touch app shortcuts

When Apple initially started adding support for 3D Touch to apps on the Home screen in iOS 9, there were some that supported the feature, and some that didn’t. Then came iOS 10, where Apple attempted to make the feature more 'useful' for apps that didn't utilize 3D Touch in creative ways by adding the “Share This App” menu option to those apps.

Because a lot of people don’t need or want to share their apps, and because it feels like unnecessary clutter to even have this menu option there in the first place, a new free jailbreak tweak called NoSharePlz by Olxios&Nico is now available in Cydia to remove it once and for all.

This tweak brings 3D Touch shortcuts to Control Center on iOS 10

You’ve got to love it when jailbreak developers find a way to turn inconspicuous things into handy shortcuts. They’ve been doing it for years, and now the tradition continues even today with the Yalu iOS 10.0-10.2 jailbreak.

A new free jailbreak tweak called Wormhole, developed by candoizo, is the latest to join the bloodline of jailbreak tweaks, as it lets you turn two of your Control Center toggle buttons into 3D Touch-sensitive shortcuts for respringing your device and visiting your favorite website.

Google launches Chrome 56 for iOS with QR code scanning and overhauled tab switcher on iPad

Google today updated Chrome for iPhone and iPad on App Store with a pair of new features. The first allows you to scan a QR code or barcode by selecting a new Scan QR Code option in the shortcuts menu after pressing the app's Home screen icon with 3D Touch on iPhone 6s/7 series. On older devices without 3D Touch, search for “QR” in iOS's Spotlight feature to reveal a shortcut to the browser's new barcode-scanning function.

CCTButtonActions lets you use 3D Touch in Control Center to get to specialized settings

Control Center has a lot of useful toggles existing all along the top of it, allowing you do things like turn Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Rotation Lock, or even Do Not Disturb mode on or off.

Of course, one jailbreak developer has found a way to make the toggles into shortcuts for the respective preferences panes in the Settings app, and he’s done so with a new free jailbreak tweak called CCTButtonActions.

KGI: iPhone 8’s 3D Touch may provide higher sensitivity and wider range of pressure levels

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in today's research note that Apple may adopt a combination of fingerprint and face detection sensors to supplant Touch ID.

In another note to clients obtained by MacRumors, Kuo claims that iPhone 8 will debut an enhanced form of 3D Touch technology with higher sensitivity and a wider range of pressure levels.

Reminisce more efficiently with ‘Show Photos from this Day’ in iOS

The holidays are a natural time to sit down with friends or loved ones and flip through all of your photos ad nauseam. iDB features help and guides aplenty for confident navigation of the Camera and Photos app, however one little trick has managed to fly under the radar for many, albeit its capability to save you valuable time when browsing your compendium of years and years of photos.

The tutorial below will teach you how to ask your iPhone or iPad to show you all remaining photos captured on the same day the footage you were initially looking at has been taken. In simpler words, say you are laughing at a vacation video taken at the pool and want to reminisce what else went on that day - here is what you should do instead of going back to your collection and painstakingly scanning your catalogue for that day.

Cuttlefish tints 3D Touch menu backgrounds on the Home screen to match the app color

Those who use 3D Touch to access the Home screen menu shortcuts from application icons know its usefulness for getting to specific app actions quickly. On the other hand, all of the 3D Touch Home screen menus are pretty bland, and no matter what app you use the 3D Touch gesture on, the menu is always the same color.

A new free jailbreak tweak called Cuttlefish aims to change that by dynamically colorizing the menu background blur to match the dominant color of the application icon you’re using the 3D Touch gesture on.
