Andrea Gelati, the developer behind the budget-priced personal database software Records, is back with a new Mac app called Focusplan. Focusplan is a creative tool for folks who can use a hand on the Mac with mind mapping and brainstorming exercises. It's available for free download from the Mac App Store, though unlocking it past the trial period requires a subscription fee.

FCC lets carriers get away with lying about 4G coverage

Verizon, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular exaggerated the extent of their 4G LTE coverage in official filings to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the FCC itself found in an investigation. But FCC chairman Ajit Pai won't take any action against the carriers. Instead, they'll get a stern talking-to, according to Ars Technica.

In announcing this year's roundup, Apple's senior VP of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said this year's winners "reflect our global desire for connection, creativity and fun." Apps include creative tools for photography, sketching, and graphic design. Best Games included a social-minded RPG, stylish and offbeat action and puzzle titles, and more.

December 1st is World AIDS Day, an annual event marked by the World Health Organization (WHO) dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic. Apple CEO Tim Cook noted the event with a post to Twitter acknowledging Apple's long-time partnership with the Product(RED) brand, now in its 13th year, to raise money to fight AIDS in Africa. Cook said that Apple's efforts have raised $220 million to date.
