Apple seeds OS X 10.11.2 beta to developers

Along with the release of iOS 9.2 beta 1, Apple has seeded a new OS X beta to developers. The beta, OS X 10.11.2, comes with a build number of 15C27e.

It's only been 6 days since the public edition of the prior version of Apple's desktop OS, OS X 10.11.1, was released. Unlike today's earlier iOS update, Apple is being fairly mum about the contents of its new beta for El Capitan.

Apple releases iOS 9.2 beta 1 to developers, bringing more options to Safari View Controller

Apple has released the first beta for iOS 9.2. The beta, which is accessible via Apple's developer center, comes in at build 13C5055d.

Unlike some of Apple's more recent beta releases, iOS 9.2 beta 1 includes iOS SDK Release Notes! This beta release is focused primarily on the new iOS 9 technology, Safari View Controller, making it more like standalone Safari. Check out the rest of this post to see what the new beta includes.

Apple reveals new ‘Half Court’ iPhone 6s ad to show off Live Photos

Apple has posted a brand new ad to its YouTube channel to bring attention to the iPhone 6s' Live Photos feature. The 15 second spot, entitled Half Court, features NBA star Stephen Curry of the World Champion Golden State Warriors.

In the ad, Curry takes a difficult to make half court shot and immediately turns to look at the camera before he sees if the shot is successful. Right after the shot, the cameraman takes a photo using his iPhone 6s.

The spot then cuts to the cameraman, the just-taken shot on his iPhone, using 3D Touch to review the Live Photo. Given Curry's "in the gym" range when it comes to shooting, you can probably guess what happens next...

Here’s why you shouldn’t buy an extra Siri Remote at this time

The new Apple TV went on sale today, and Apple is pushing several accessories to go along with the launch. We outlined some of the more interesting accessories in this post, but I wanted to talk a bit more about the Siri Remote.

The Siri Remote is, of course, bundled with all new Apple TVs. When you buy a new Apple TV, you get everything that you need to get started in the box.

Yet, Apple is selling the Siri Remote as a separate purchase as well.

This intrigued me for several reasons—first, the Siri Remote is actually more expensive than a base configuration Apple TV itself. The Siri remote is $79. The new Apple TV with 32GB of storage is $149 and includes a Siri Remote. Simple math says that without the Siri Remote, the new Apple TV is $70. Obviously, the pricing semantics aren't that simple, but you get what I'm trying to say here.

But far more important than price, is the fact that you cannot connect more than one Siri Remote at a time. That's right, only one Siri Remote may be connected to an Apple TV at any given time. That means no multiplayer games using multiple Siri Remotes, or anything else of the sort. For this reason, you should skip the extra Siri Remote purchase at this time.

New Apple TV accessories: which ones should you order?

Along with being able to order the new Apple TV, you can also order several new accessories to go along with your shiny new set top box. There aren't a ton of accessories immediately available for the new Apple TV, but some of the ones that are available may be worthy of your consideration.

There are a few key accessories that Apple is promoting on its online store during the new Apple TV checkout process: the Siri Remote, Remote Loop, and the SteelSeries Nimbus Wireless Controller. Should you consider buying any of these in addition to your new Apple TV?

The Apple TV 4 is now available for sale

As promised by Tim Cook, Apple new 4th generation Apple TV just went on sale on Apple's online store. Coming in both 32 and 64 GB flavors, the new Apple TV starts at $149 for the lower storage tier, and caps off at $199 for the higher storage tier.

The new Apple TV 4, which comes bundled with Apple's new Siri Remote, is the first Apple TV to be able to run full-fledged apps from the App Store thanks to its new operating system, tvOS. The ability to run apps and search with Siri are two of the big headlining features for the refresh. Users can also expect a modern looking UI with a familiar, yet refreshed, interface.

New tweak adds Safari View Controller support to Twitter, Gmail, WhatsApp and Alien Blue

Safari View Controller is a new feature in iOS 9 that lets developers enable an in-app browser based on Safari that taps into many of the features that make using standalone Safari so great. Some of the benefits are the ability to use current logins, access the keychain and use autofill.

Previously, developers had to come up with their own browsers for their apps, which meant that users couldn't tap into ongoing logins, the keychain, or use autofill when viewing the web through these browsers. That resulted in, as you can probably attest to, a less that ideal and disconnected user experience.

Apple has fixed this issue by allowing developers to use Safari View Controller in order to bridge the gap between the sites and data that they already use, and the apps that they love.

Unfortunately, not all apps yet support Safari View Controller. Some popular apps, like Gmail, Twitter, and WhatsApp, to name a few, still use their own built in browsers. SFSafariViewController all the things is a brand new tweak that aims to fix this issue.

How to add iOS 9.1 emoji to a jailbroken device running iOS 9.0, iOS 9.0.1, or iOS 9.0.2

The headline feature of iOS 9.1 was without a doubt the 150 new emoji characters available to emoji keyboard users. These new characters are all the rage, and rightfully so, as they bring a whole new range of emotions to the table.

But what about those of us stuck on iOS 9.0, iOS 9.0.1, or iOS 9.0.2? As you all know, Apple killed the Pangu jailbreak with iOS 9.1, so upgrading to iOS 9.1 isn't an option for those of us wanting to maintain our jailbreak.

Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that you can enable the emoji keyboard and send new emojis to devices capable of displaying them. The bad news is that the tweak is still a work in progress, and as such, the new emoji don't display properly in all apps.

Some apps will work fine, such as Mail, but other apps, like Messages, won't properly display the new emoji. Developer PoomSmart says that he is working on a fix for the issue, so eventually, we may have a 100% fully working iOS 9 emoji package for iOS 9.1.

In the meantime, however, this tutorial is the next best thing. Watch our video to see how it works.

Using the iPhone 6s 3D Touch display to weigh items [Video]

A new app called allows iPhone 6s users to use the device's 3D Touch input for providing relative weight comparisons between objects. Don't throw out your digital scales, because this app doesn't provide precise weights for the objects placed on the iPhone 6s' screen, but it can be handy for comparing two or more objects at once to see which one weighs the most.

Aptly titled Plum-O-Meter, which is named after the fruit that is weighed during a demonstration video, the open source app uses the iPhone 6s's 3D touch to display the weights of plums relative to the the phone's maximum possible force. Of course, you don't have to use plums, you can use apples, oranges, fingers, or any other object weighing enough that's capable of being picked up by the capacitive touch screen.
