Goodges: a tweak that replaces badge notifications with labels

Goodges is a new jailbreak tweak that lets you swap out app icon badges for app icon labels. In other words, the tweak is designed to showcase a label notifying you of pending notifications, instead of the traditional badge.

If you find app icon badges to be unsightly, then Goodges is a free tweak that you should consider. It allows you to see pending notifications for specific apps, without being subjected to the ugly badges that litter your Home screen.

How to install Kodi on iOS 9 without jailbreaking

Kodi is one of those apps that I love using on my jailbroken devices, but did you know that it can also be easily installed and used on a non-jailbroken device? I just finished installing Kodi on my iPad Pro in a matter of minutes. Although it's not as straightforward as installing it from Cydia, it can still easily be done with a bit of patience.

I use Kodi to stream live local channels to my iOS devices via an HDHomeRun box, but I also use it to stream video from an external drive hooked up to my AirPort extreme. Needless to say, it's a great app that's not just limited to jailbroken device thanks to Xcode 7.

Five must-try apps for the iPad Pro

During my hands-on time with the iPad Pro, I’ve been able to identify several apps that I believe all iPad Pro owners should have in their stable of apps. Inside, you’ll find details about a popular email client, an awesome text editor, a podcast recording studio, a visual drawing, sketching and painting app, and an awesome iPad Pro-optimized Twitter client. Have you tried them all?

Apple appears to have upped the iTunes Match track limit

According to a report by blogger Kirk McElhearn, Apple has increased iTunes Match and iCloud Music Library track limits above the original 25,000 track threshold. This increase, while yet to be officially acknowledged by Apple, has been in the cards since at least summer.

Although Eddy Cue, who serves as Apple's Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services, said that the limit would rise to 100,000 around the iOS 9 release, the increase hit an apparent delay, and has just now begun to roll out to users.

Tweak Count 2: quickly view how many Cydia tweaks you have installed

Have you ever wondered how many jailbreak tweaks you have installed on your jailbroken iPhone at any given time? Of course, you can always open Cydia and manually count how many tweaks you have inside of the Installed tab, but wouldn't it be better if there was a running tally of installed tweaks provided right within Cydia? That's the premise behind Tweak Count 2—a free jailbreak tweak that provides you with a real time tally of installed Cydia tweaks.

Splitify: use Split View on all jailbroken iOS 9 devices

Splitify is a recently released jailbreak tweak that allows you to use iOS 9's Split View—a multitasking feature that's exclusive to the latest iPad models—on any jailbroken iOS 9 device. That means that, yes, as long as you're jailbroken on iOS 9, you can use Split View on your iPad Air, iPhone 6s, iPhone 5s, or other device.

Review: the Shure MV5 is a versatile Lightning-enabled microphone for the iPad, iPhone and Mac

Since the iPad Pro debuted, I’ve been a little obsessed with trying to find the right microphone for recording on the go. I’ve tried a handful of microphones thus far in an effort to find a good balance of portability, ease of use, and sound quality.

The Blue Spark Digital is a very good microphone for general purpose use, but when it comes to portability and versatility, there are other microphones that I wish to check out.

The Shure MV5 ($99 on Amazon) is a super-portable digital condenser microphone with a low profile, lots of options, and sound quality that’s good enough. It’s a much smaller package and setup when compared with the Blue Spark Digital, and a good choice for podcasting, Skype calls, and more.

New “On the Set” iPhone 6s advert showcases hands-free Siri

Apple has been on a roll as of late when it comes to advertising. Two days or so after posting two new iPhone 6s advertisements, Apple has uploaded yet another to its YouTube channel.

The latest ad, entitled "On the Set", features Avengers executive producer Jon Favreau. In the spot, Favreau, who's directing a gymnastics sequence, uses hands-free Siri to pull up example pictures of flying squirrels.

ESPN rolls WatchESPN into its official app

Today is a big day for sports fans who like to keep up with sports scores, news, and even watch live games on the go. The live portion of ESPN's popular WatchESPN app, an app that has garnered millions of downloads and billions of minutes of live playtime, has been rolled into ESPN's main app.

In addition to the live streaming integration, ESPN's app now features 3D Touch support for the iPhone 6s, Spotlight Search support for iOS 9, and universal links so that ESPN.com links may open directly in the app itself.

How to enable the iPhone 6s’ keyboard trackpad mode on older jailbroken iPhones

If you have an older jailbroken iPhone like the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5s, then you're missing out on one of the best features made possible by 3D Touch featured on the iPhone 6s. Thanks to 3D Touch, the iPhone 6s' keyboard trackpad mode allows users to swipe on the keyboard to position the cursor accurately when typing or editing text.

The good news is that a newly release jailbreak tweak, found on up-and-coming developer collective Creatix's beta repo, brings some of the keyboard trackpad features to older devices.

How to search iDB quickly using Workflow

Searching iDB using the Google Site Search box embedded on the blog usually returns super-accurate and trustworthy results. But wouldn't it be cool if you could perform searches directly from a Notification Center Today View Widget?

If you have Workflow installed on your iOS device, it'll only take a few seconds to install my iDB Search workflow for super-quick searches from anywhere on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

SwitchService: a tweak that lets you quickly toggle between iMessage and SMS messages

BiteSMS was a jailbreak app that acted as an outright replacement for the stock Messages app. It was extremely popular due to the bevy of different features that it brought to the table. One such feature was the ability to quickly switch between sending messages as iMessages or standard SMS messages.

Sadly, BiteSMS has been defunct for some time now, and with it, many of the features that made it so great. But a new jailbreak tweak called SwitchService brings back the ability to toggle between iMessage and SMS messages, and as you'll see, it works very well.
