Google buys Softcard, inks deal with carriers to bolster Google Wallet

Google has purchased digital wallet software company Softcard, formerly know as Isis, to bolster its Google Wallet product as Apple Pay has begun to gain ground.

The deal will see Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and AT&T pre-install Google Wallet on their Android phones in the US later this year, as Google hopes to do away with the fragmentation problem Google Wallet has been suffering from. 

Wider color-screen Pebble leaks ahead of official unveil

An image of what is likely to be the next-generation Pebble smartwatch has been found on the company's servers, ahead of its official unveiling on Tuesday.

Though specific details weren't shared in the leak, it can be gathered the next-generation Pebble has a color screen and larger bezels, along with protruding buttons that were found on the original version.

Toyota backtracks, currently not planning to implement Apple CarPlay

Toyota has revealed in a piece with the New York Times that it's currently not planning to offer CarPlay on any of its vehicles in the United States, going back on being one of the first partners to announce CarPlay support last year.

John Hanson, the national manager of Toyota’s advanced technology communications, told the New York Times that while it talks frequently with Apple, Toyota currently has no plans to adopt CarPlay in the United States, but didn't necessarily rule it out in the future.

Google is working to revamp its Google Wallet service available for Android devices, after the growth of Apple Pay in its early days, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The Journal lays out the search giant's plans, including word that it's working to unveil a new version of Google Wallet in late May at the Google I/O developer conference.

Apple begins free repair program for MacBook Pros with graphic issues

Apple announced on Thursday a free replacement program for certain models of the MacBook Pro that have been suffering from graphic card issues, at times making the laptop virtually unusable.

The replacement program, that begins on February 20 in the US and February 27 in other regions, covers the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models manufactured in 2011 and the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina models manufactured from mid-2012 to early-2013. 

T-Mobile claims it’s third largest US carrier over Sprint

T-Mobile CEO John Legere claims that his Uncarrier is now the third largest carrier in the United States, overtaking Sprint for the spot behind AT&T and Verizon. Legere had been predicting the overtaking of Sprint for sometime, and he finally made the claim it's happened during T-Mobile's earnings call Thursday afternoon.

Samsung buys Apple Pay competitor LoopPay

Samsung announced on Wednesday that it's buying Apple Pay competitor LoopPay as it looks to bolster a mobile payments product. LoopPay, similar to Apple's offering, offers a mobile wallet that allows wireless payments to take place on existing magnetic stripe readers.
