iPhone 5 Launch in Second Week of September, iPad 3 to Follow Shortly After

According to China Times, the iPhone 5 is set to be released in the second week of September with an opening order of 4 million units. This speculation lines up with current predictions.

According to suppliers, 400,000 trial units are currently being prepared. The news report goes on to say that the next generation iPad may be delayed until Thanksgiving due to component shortages...

Hilarious Target Ad “Leaks” the iPhone 5

We're not sure whether the iPhone featured in this Target ad is the work of a smart jokester in the retailer's art department, or whether someone has inadvertently leaked an image of the iPhone 5, but either way, this is interesting — especially because it seems to tie in with those iPhone 5 case designs we published earlier.

As you can see from the picture above, the iPhone in this image shares some resemblance with the iPhone 4, however, in some ways it's different. Most notably because of those curved edges and curved back, which seems to taper towards the bottom.

An Exclusive Look Inside Apple’s Smart Sign

Yesterday, I went to the Apple Store with a mission: to get an inside peek at what was behind Apple's own Smart Sign application. If you don't know what a Smart Sign is, it is an iPad with a special app that shows product specs.

This app can't be exited with the home button, it can only be closed with a secret gesture. I did some peeking around, and I found some interesting things.

Gevey SIM Unlocks iOS 4.3.5

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 4.3.5. The update fixed a security vulnerability with certificate validation. If you jailbreak and use UltraSn0w, stay away from this update. But if you are a Gevey SIM user, we have some good news.

Even though we previously reported that Apple blocked the Gevey SIM in iOS 5 Beta 2 and above, the Gevey SIM works with iOS 4.3.5...

Google Books is Booted From the App Store, Amazon Updates Kindle to Comply With Apple’s Terms [Updated]

Google Books is the first major app to be booted from the App Store for not complying with Apple's latest in-app purchases policy. Apple's new rules, which went into affect on June 30, state that no app can provide a link to purchasing additional content outside of Apple's ecosystem.

Unfortunately, Google decided not to remove the link to its own eBooks store from its app, and it is no longer available as a result.

Google's app first hit the App Store in December, and along with Amazon's Kindle, it's one of the major rivals to Apple's own iBookstore. However, whereas Amazon's Kindle and a number of other applications have been updated to comply with Apple's terms, Google has so far decided not to bother...

Facebook for iPad Hidden Within iPhone App, Here’s How to Get it Right Now

TechCrunch has reported that the rumored Facebook for iPad app is hidden within the iPhone app. How so?

A Twitter user by the name of Marvin Bernal found that changing the "UIDeviceFamily" from 1 to 2 in the info.plist of the iPhone app will display a hidden Facebook iPad app. This also hints that hidden app will become a universal application, meaning that the same app can be downloaded on both an iPhone and an iPad.

Here's how to get the secret Facebook for iPad app on your own iPad right now...

T-Mobile Now Selling Micro SIM Cards for iPhone 4

Rumors are that Apple will come out with an iPhone capable of running on T-Mobile's 3G/4G network, and today T-Mobile took the first steps in the Apple/T-Mobile partnership. T-Mobile is now giving free Micro SIM cards to its customers.

This news comes after T-Mobile announced they have over one million unlocked iPhones on their network. It has been over a month since Apple started selling unlocked iPhone 4s in the US that work on T-Mobile's EDGE network.

AT&T iPhone Activations Match Last Quarter at 3.6 Million

In its second quarter financial results today, AT&T revealed it had activated 3.6 million iPhones during the three-month period ending in June. This figure is identical to that announced for AT&T's first financial quarter, however, it is an increase over the 3.2 million devices activated during the same quarter last year.

After falling over the last 12-18 months, the number of new customers activating iPhones seems to have stabilized. 24% of iPhone activations were for new customers, which is just slightly higher than the first quarter, and significantly lower than the 40% rate during the early days of the iPhone.

Defend Against an Alien Invasion with “Q Pang” for iPhone

Q Pang was developed by Bobtan and is an excellent 4.5 star rated iPhone game. If you love blowing up aliens in an explosive arcade fashion, then this game is perfect for you.

Q Pang has a traditional set up. Located at the bottom of the screen, an incredibly cute cat, the hero, must keep waves of attacking invaders from outerspace from reaching land.  In order to do so, he has to blow them sky high.

In my opinion, that’s where the similarity between Q Pang and other shooters end. First of all, the hero in question is a cat. This ferociously cute thing packs a hard punch with personality to boot. From crazy-looking glowing eyes when he’s mowing down the Qs, to coordinating outfits for some of his weapons, this alien blasting Garfield is not your typical anti-alien defense force...

CNN Brings 24/7 Live Streaming of Online News to Your iOS Device

CNN announced earlier today that CNN and HLN will be streaming a constant 24/7 feed of programming on all CNN iOS apps, as well offering the continued streaming on CNN.com for desktop users.

Although CNN is the first news network (in the United States, BBC has done it for a while now) to stream their channel 24/7 online, there is a catch. In order to watch CNN on your iDevice on the go, you need to be subscribed to a TV multi-channel service. It's available to subscribers of AT&T, Comcast, Cox, DISH Network, Suddenlink and Verizon, as well as some satellite services...

Mic-Enabled Entertainment Apps for the iPhone Are a Breath of Fresh Air

From games to utilities, app developers are exploring new technological territory with iPhone features. Applications that use the accelerometer and gyroscope are very common. But these aren’t the only hardware features that application developers are showing off in a new way.

The microphone has also begun to star in new iPhone applications. These novel apps are showing that the microphone can be used in ways that are much more creative than simple recording.  By allowing players to use their actual breath to power virtual fun and games, the following three apps show that it’s not such a bad thing to be full of hot air.

Should Apple Fear Android’s Growth?

In the last quarter, Google activated more than 50 million new Android devices, with a growing rate of 57%. In comparison, Apple is expected to announce the sale of only 29 million iPhones during the same period, with a disappointing 2% growth rate. Without any intention of being unfair to Google, if the iPhone 5 had launched in June, Apple's growth would have been more impressive.

Sales figures speak for themselves. Each day, more than 500,000 new phones running the Android OS are activated. Google's strength lies in the fact that their OS is available on different devices and carriers, providing the consumer a wider selection to choose from...
