Apple updates iCloud Passwords extension for Windows with support for Firefox web browser

Back in December of 2024, Apple acquired a popular iCloud Passwords extension that enabled iCloud Keychain auto-fill capabilities in the Mozilla Firefox web browser. This allowed even Firefox users to enjoy one of the conveniences enjoyed by users of Apple’s first party Safari web browser.

While the add-on only supported Macs at the time, it seems that Apple has quietly updated the extension to support more browsers on Windows PCs as well, with the latest update making it possible for those who have Firefox installed on their machine able to use this extension to quicky and effortlessly auto-fill login information, including passwords.

It’s worth noting that the extension has long worked in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows PCs, but now that the extension works in Firefox for Windows, users are given more choices. This is a particularly convenient feature that Apple once only supported in Safari, but since Safari isn’t available on Windows anymore, this is the next best way for Windows users with Apple devices to utilize the service.

Upon trying to log in to a website or service, the app displays a pop-up over the login interface as depicted in the screenshot example below:

Windows users who want to give the iCloud Passwords extension a try in Firefox can add the extension to their web browser from the official Firefox Browser Add-Ons page. Users will also need to have the iCloud for Windows app installed on their Windows PC to make this work.
