I’m glad this show wasn’t cancelled or delayed forever. Among other things, Apple TV+ is a great source of high-quality science fiction, and “Neuromancer” fits the bill perfectly. Apple announced in February 2024 it would adaptat William Gibson’s incredible science fiction set in a futuristic techno-criminal world.

The series will comprise ten episodes and focus on Case, a hacker, and his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin, as they take aim at a corporate dynasty. The show doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but you can add “Neuromancer” to your Apple TV+ watchlist to watch it when the show becomes available to stream. Just don’t expect an exact copy of Gibson’s novel; the author said on X in 2024 that Apple’s show will be different from the book.

The 30-second teaser depicts the interior of the Chatsubo bar with some serious 1980s neon vibes. For those who haven’t read Gibson’s masterpiece (here’s an Apple Books link), the Chatsubo bar is the place where everyone goes to meet and with anyone, a sort of getaway from the real world.

Here’s Apple’s description of the show:

Case was the sharpest data-thief in the matrix—until he crossed the wrong people and they crippled his nervous system, banishing him from cyberspace. Now a mysterious new employer has recruited him for a last-chance run at an unthinkably powerful artificial intelligence. With a dead man riding shotgun and Molly, a mirror-eyed street-samurai, to watch his back, Case is ready for the adventure that upped the ante on an entire genre of fiction.

The show will be executive produced by Graham Roland and JD Dillard, alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television; Anonymous Content; Drake, Adel ‘Future’ Nur and Jason Shrier for DreamCrew Entertainment; and Zack Hayden and Gibson.

Great news for sci-fi fans

I’m super stoked about this development. This is great, great news for all you science fiction fans out there. Gibson’s novel is a masterpiece and an iconic sci-fi property that defines so-called cyberpunk. If you like sci-fi series like “Foundation,” then “Neuromancer” should be right up your alley.

“Neuromancer” has been praised as one of the first and most-respected works within the cyberpunk genre. The novel is actually the first book in the “Sprawl” trilogy that also includes “Count Zero” and “Mona Lisa Overdrive.”

Cyberpunk imagery evokes many emotions; our cyberpunk city wallpapers for the iPhone capture a subgenre of the dystopian future setting in science fiction, with incredible technological advancements alongside environmental destruction and high-tech yet grunge living conditions.
