Riley Testut, the lead developer behind the extremely popular Delta emulator app for iPhone and iPad, introduced a new application for the iPhone on Thursday called Delta Camera, which allows users to take Nintendo Game Boy Camera-style photographs with the device’s built-in camera.

The AltStore team, which Testut leads, announced the new app in a post shared via social media platform 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, and from what we can gather, it’s designed to emulate the Game Boy Camera – a dedicated cartridge that launched for the Game Boy in 1998 with a built-in camera for snapping images.
If you’re unfamiliar with such a device, then we’ll happily remind you that it featured a 128×128 pixel CMOS sensor and that it captured 128×112 pixel grayscale digital images using the only four colors available on the Game Boy system. While that’s low resolution by today’s camera standards, this was high-tech back in the day.
As you might come to expect, the Delta Camera app retains all these features, taking low resolution monochrome images that look exactly like the types of images you’d be able to capture with the Game Boy Camera. This makes it a fun and nostalgic way to re-live simpler times and entertain yourself.
Of course, to still offer a usable camera experience in a world flooded with camera apps, Delta Camera supports modern camera app features, such as being able to manually expose or zoom, as well as native support for the Camera Control on the latest iPhones, among other things.
Delta Camera is currently available beginning today to Patreon supporters starting at $3 per month and will launch for everyone else later this year.
