If the YouTube app is crashing or not working properly on your iPhone or iPad, reinstall it from the App Store to fix it, Google has officially advised.
Google has responded to complaints on Reddit over the YouTube app crashing on iOS and Android mobile devices, or closing unexpectedly or becoming unresponsive to the point where it must be force quit.
“We’ve heard from some of you that the YouTube app is crashing on your mobile devices,” the company wrote in its YouTube Help post. The company offered a solution that involves deleting the YouTube app from your iPhone or iPad, restarting the device and then redownloading the app from the App Store.
Google says reinstall the YouTube app to fix issues
This will ensure you’re running the latest version of the YouTube app on the App Store which includes a fix for the issue. “The issue is fixed,“ Google wrote.
“If you’re using an iOS device, please reinstall the app.“ Do not go to YouTube’s App Store page and tap the Update button as that will update the existing copy of YouTube on your device without fixing the problem.
As Google instructs, you want to first delete the app and then restart the device to get rid of any leftover files before redownloading the YouTube app from the App Store. Google regularly updates the YouTube app and frequent updates are likely to include bugs that flew under the radar, which seems to have happened here.
Google has recently revamped YouTube’s mini-player while implementing a number of AI features in the app, including Lens analysis for Shorts, picture-in-picture for Shorts and AI-powered overviews in search results that highlight clips from videos which may be relevant to your query, to mention nut a few.
