Got a Mac mini that won’t power on? Apple’s new service program could cover you

Got a Mac mini that won’t power on? Apple might have your back.

Mac mini.

Citing Apple’s new Mac mini Service Program for No Power Issue web page, the company has identified a small batch of Mac mini (2023) devices with the M2 chip inside that may no longer be able to power on. The small batch of devices would have been manufactured between June 16th, 2024 and November 23rd, 2024.

The website offers a place for prospective users to enter their machine’s serial number, which can usually be located on the underside of the device if it won’t power on, to determine if the device is eligible for the voluntary service program.

If your Mac mini is affected, then you can take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store to get it examined and worked on.

While some Mac owners never buy AppleCare warranty coverage for their computers, it’s worth noting that this service program doesn’t require that the owner carry such coverage. In fact, even if you’re out of warranty, this service program covers affected Mac mini systems for up to three years after the first retail sale of the unit.

While it’s clear that enough of these machines were affected by the problem to warrant Apple’s voluntary service program, Apple didn’t comment on why it was happening. This means that users will have no way of knowing how Apple goes about repairing the device or looking for warning signs that their machine could be on the verge of failure.
