Tesla’s iPhone update adds support for Apple’s Live Activities feature so you can track Supercharger status updates without opening the mobile app.
The Live Activities feature was introduced with the iOS 16 update in 2022. So far, many key apps have added support for their own live activities. With it, apps can push stuff like order status or sports scores to the iPhone’s Lock Screen and Activity Island, so you get timely information without opening apps.
And now you can put Tesla for iPhone on that list, with the most recent update to its iPhone app displaying the status of Supercharger sessions on the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t support live activities for home charging or third-party fast charging.
How to show Tesla Supercharger charging status as a live activity on your iPhone
Be sure you have version 4.45.0 or higher of the Tesla app to get real-time charging alerts via the Live Activities feature. To manually update your installed copy of the app instead of waiting for automatic updates, hit the Update button on the App Store page for the Tesla app. Then, open the updated software at least once so that it can register its live activity with the operating system.
There’s nothing required on your part to do in order to use this feature. As soon as you connect your Tesla to a Supercharger and exit the app, you’ll notice that the current charge percentage and the estimated time remaining until charging is complete are displayed on the Lock Screen, updated live. And if you’re not on the Lock Screen, the same indicator will appear on the Dynamic Island.
Tesla’s live activity shows other helpful stats, such as current Supercharger power, total energy added in kWh, the estimated cost of charging and your current range (the “Charge” label). Visually, it features an image of your car (selected in the Colorizer feature) and a charge meter that honors the charge limit set in the vehicle.
The Live Activities feature requires iOS 17.2 and later. The Dynamic Island is found on the iPhone 14 Pro and later models.
