Google has released an update for its Gemini artificial intelligence-based chat service on Wednesday, officially bringing the app up to version 1.2025.1770102 with a particularly notable change: support for a full-screen, optimized iPad app.
As you can see, the new interface no longer appears to be just a stretched iPhone interface with a cramped keyboard on the larger display, but rather it takes full advantage of the larger screen real estate to give users a more immersive AI conversation experience.
Gemini falls behind competing AI-based chat services like ChatGPT and Grok, each of which have had optimized iPad apps all along, but it’s still better late than never, as there are iPad users who want a nice user experience just as much as iPhone users and it should be second nature for app developers to optimize apps for the iPad in 2025…
Other changes in today’s update include support for being added as a Home Screen widget, connecting with the Google Photos app library, and various UI improvements and bug fixes.
If you’re already using the Google Gemini app, then you can download the latest version from the iOS or iPadOS App Store to get the latest improvements. Those not already using it can download it for free from the iOS or iPadOS App Store (and we’d recommend checking it out on the iPad starting today).
Artificial intelligence is taking the world by storm right now, for better or for worse. Many are finding ways to integrate AI into their daily workflow to make life easier, while others are still grappling with the idea that a simple (or perhaps, not so simple) chatbot can do so much.
