Delta emulator app updated with easier Patreon sign-up following App Store external payment policy change

Apple just last week made a substantial change to its App Store external payment policy, enabling external off-app purchases following a court ruling involving longtime legal rival Epic Games in which the Cupertino-based company was found to be engaging in anti-competitive behavior.

Delta App Store now allows Patreon sign-ups.

Apple’s change in tune had a substantial domino effect, with countless app developers enabling external payment methods overnight to evade Apple’s previously tight regulation over app developers’ finances.

Today, popular game emulator platform Delta is following suit. In an announcement shared via social media platform 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, the AltStore team said that Delta v1.7.2 had been released to reflect Apple’s new App Store policies in the United States, enabling a new Patreon sign-up flow.

Delta users had long been able to sign up for the team’s Patreon to obtain early access to new features, access to Patreon-exclusive perks & benefits, and more. The sign-up process was convoluted and full of ‘scare screens’ intended to turn users away, as Apple didn’t want direct Patreon sign-up links in App Store apps – at least not until now.

As you can see in the screenshot examples above, the latest App Store rule changes have made it so that direct Patreon sign-up buttons are accessible accessed right from the app for as little as $3 per month (or even less if you pay annually). The Apple-mandated ‘scare screens’ that tried to turn users away are now absent from the user experience.

Ironically, this is the second time that Delta has benefited from an App Store policy change. Previously, emulator apps weren’t allowed in the App Store, but that changed following an App Store policy change made last year, allowing retro game console emulators to be present in the App Store after all.

The Delta emulator app allows users to emulate various retro game console platforms, including:

  • Nintendo Entertainment System
  • Super Nintendo Entertainment System
  • Nintendo 64
  • Game Boy (Color)
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Nintendo DS
  • And more…

Not only does the emulator app support third-party game controllers that you link to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth, but you can even play multiplayer Nintendo DS games via Nintendo WFC servers. If you’re using the in-app controller instead of a hardware controller, then you can also apply controller skins for a personalized look and feel.

The latest version of Delta is now available via the App Store’s Updates tab for anyone who’s already taking advantage of it. Alternatively, those who want to give Delta a try for the first time can grab it from the App Store for free.
