AltStore PAL v2.2 released with support for updated REST API, various bug fixes & improvements

The AltStore team announced an updated version of the AltStore PAL app distribution platform for European Union users via social media platform 𝕏 on Tuesday, this time bringing the utility up to version 2.2.

AltStore PAL v2.2 update.

According to the announcement, the team has introduced an all-new REST API that can make it faster for developers to host their apps. AltStore PAL takes full advantage of the new updated REST API, as well as the following changes noted in the version 2.2 change log:

NEW

– Supports installing apps from developers registered via our updated REST API
– Supports localized titles, subtitles, and descriptions in sources

IMPROVED

– Sorts apps alphabetically in My Apps
– Added Bluesky social media button to Settings
– Hides “See All” button for sources with only one app

FIXED

– Fixed choosing alternate app icon on iPad
– Fixed handling source deep link when already viewing source details
– Fixed installing apps with case-sensitive download URLs
– Fixed installing apps before adding source via deep link
– Fixed “Join Patreon” sheet appearance in Dark Mode
– Fixed not showing OPEN for installed apps when previewing source via deep link
– Fixed nor showing OPEN for installed apps when previewing already-added Recommended Source

AltStore PAL is different from the AltStore team’s AltStore Classic sideloading utility in that it’s an official mode of installing apps outside of the App Store. Apple was forced to allow third-party app distribution platforms on their platforms in the European Union by law, so this means that apps can be hosted there that otherwise wouldn’t be allowed in the App Store.

Unfortunately, AltStore PAL isn’t available anywhere else in the world, so the only way to get non-approved apps on an iPhone or iPad in the United States or elsewhere is with a sideloading utility such as AltStore classic or with a perma-signing utility such as TrollStore.
