Learn how to use Grok Vision to explore the world around you through an iPhone’s camera and get an insanely detailed image analysis from the chatbot.
If you’ve used the Google Gemini app, you’ll feel right at home with Grok Vision. Basically, you just point your iPhone’s camera at an object, text or scene to receive a contextually-aware answer from Grok, read aloud, detailing what’s in the image.
In addition, Grok’s existing Voice mode now supports real-time search for instant, up-to-date answers in the most recent version, plus multilingual audio for conversing with the chatbot in multiple languages, xAI announced on X.
How to use Grok Vision for detailed image analysis and insights on what your iPhone sees
To use Grok Vision for image analysis, open Grok for iPhone, hit the paperclip icon or the “+” (plus) sign in the chat interface and choose “Camera.” Point your iPhone’s camera at anything you want, hit the shutter button and choose “Use Photo.”
An image thumbnail appears in the chat interface. Hit the upwardly-pointed arrow to upload the image to the Grok cloud and get a detailed analysis from the AI chatbot.
To upload an existing image from your Photos library, choose the “Photos” option instead. Alternatively, activate Voice Mode and hit the video camera icon, then point your iPhone’s camera at an object, text or scene and ask questions like, “What am I looking at?” Grok will speak aloud its contextually aware answer in Voice Mode.
Note that Voice Mode requires a subscription. To buy a subscription, hit the three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner and select “Upgrade to SuperGrok.”
For best results, be sure you have good lighting for clear images. Experiment with various angles or questions for different answers. You can also use typed questions instead of voice commands to ask Grok to perform an image analysis.
If you don’t have the Grok app installed, you can also hit a “Grok” button on posts with images when using Grok on the X platform. Doing so will send the image to Grok for analysis or descriptions—useful for memes, graphs or news-related visuals!
