In a major announcement shared to social media platform 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, the AltStore team said that it was celebrating the one-year anniversary of the launch of AltStore PAL in the European Union with a new version of AltStore Classic that users can acquire directly from AltStore PAL.
In the announcement, the AltStore team explained that compared to the normal AltStore Classic that the rest of the world is using, the new notarized version of AltStore Classic that can be had from AltStore PAL offers unique advantages like never expiring, not counting toward the three sideloaded app limit, and not requiring a PC to be installed or updated. These perks only apply to AltStore Classic, and not the apps you sideload with it.
By comparison, the typical AltStore Classic utility that users can install via AltServer on their iPhone or iPad from their computer needs to be re-signed once every seven days, does count against the three sideloaded app limit, and requires a PC to be installed and/or updated.
By installing AltStore Classic through AltStore PAL, users can choose from hundreds of non-notarized apps to sideload on their iPhone or iPad, including apps that take advantage of Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation, such as the ever-popular DolphiniOS app.
Sideloading remains limited to three non-notarized apps for free Apple Developer accounts, but that number becomes unlimited if you have a paid Apple Developer account. Additionally, while this version of AltStore Classic can be installed via AltStore PAL to bypass counting against the three sideloaded app limit, you will still need AltServer to make full use of it.
The AltStore team also announced a new app they’re called StikDebug, which enables true on-device JIT compilation for any app you’ve sideloaded using AltStore Classic. Since everything happens on the device itself, this means you don’t need a PC to make this work.
It’s worth noting that the AltStore team recently released AltStore version 2.2 to all users, so if you haven’t already seen it, be sure to check that out to learn all about it.
