After launching a major update to the Delta emulator app for iPhones and iPads just over a week ago with support for Nintendo DS game online multiplayer and other improvements, the AltStore Team took to 𝕏 to announce another update to the app this Tuesday afternoon.
The new v1.7.1 update, available starting right now for all AltStore PAL users and soon for all App Store users, isn’t nearly as significant as the previous update, but it’s worth mentioning because it contains important bug fixes and improvements for all users.
From the Delta release notes web page, we can gather that the new Delta v1.7.1 update introduces the following changes:
– Disables OpenGL ES 3.0 by default for Donkey Kong 64 to fix crashes
– Tapping “Join our Patreon” now directly opens link to Patreon campaign instead of AltStore
– Fixed game previews not respecting OpenGL ES 3.0 setting
– Fixed missing Patreon-exclusive app icons in PAL version
As it would appear, this update brings changes for the new OpenGL ES 3.0 game rendering option, helping to mitigate crashes and unexpected behavior when using it with certain games that it doesn’t play as nicely with.
The AltStore team announced support for OpenGL ES 3.0 in the previous v1.7 update, noting that it would enhance the gaming experience in some cases. There was also an option to switch back to OpenGL ES 2.0 manually on a per-game basis for those games that don’t support it well, but now it’s disabled by default for at least one of the games known to interact poorly with it.
While this update isn’t yet available to App Store users, those using AltStore PAL can get the update right away. App Store users will need to wait for Apple to approve the update, which may take a few hours to a few days, depending on the App Store review team’s current workload.
