Nugget updated to v5.1 with support for importing video files as wallpapers & more bug fixes

As you may recall, the Nugget SparseRestore exploit-based device customization utility for non-jailbroken handsets running iOS 17.0-18.4 beta recently picked up an update adding the ability to set animated wallpapers, and it was later reported that video wallpapers were coming soon. Well folks… that update is finally here.

Nugget v5.1 announcement.

In a post shared via the Cowabunga Discord channel on Thursday, Nugget project lead developer LeminLimez announced the release of Nugget version 5.1, which officially brings the ability to import video wallpapers in the forms of .mp4 or .mov files and use them as wallpapers.

The full change log for this update is provided for you below:

– Added importing videos as wallpapers (.mp4 or .mov)
– You can choose to reverse the video on loop and choose to have it cover the clock
– It will automatically scale to your own device’s resolution
– Note: Videos are limited to 300 frames
– Added additional Crash Report and Wi-Fi WAPIC daemons to disable
– Improved messages on some labels to make it easier to understand
– Apply button no longer freezes the app
– Fixed crash caused by files outside the container in .tendies files
– Fixed bug where Nugget would spam alerts when importing more than 10 tendies
– Fixed mobilegestalt not applying when applying daemons or PosterBoard tweaks
– Optimized applying PosterBoard tweaks

While video wallpapers are the central feature in this latest update, there are also some important bug fixes that will make this a worthwhile update for all new and existing users.

As you might come to expect with video wallpapers, you can loop the video so that it never ends, or you can have it cover the clock so you can see all of it. To help reduce strain on system resources, videos are limited to 300 frames. You can probably expect some kind of dip in battery life when applying video wallpapers, as they require more resources than stills.

Nugget doesn’t require a jailbreak to use, but a lot of its other system customization options can mimic the functionality of standard jailbreak tweaks on pwned handsets. That’s part of what makes this utility so cool – that, and the fact that it works on iOS 17.0-18.4 beta. Versions of this tool are available for both macOS and Windows.

It’s recommended that you back up your device before using Nugget, as making changes to your device comes with a slight risk of boot loops that could cause you to have to restore your device to fix. By backing up your data, getting it back in the event of such a tragedy wouldn’t be as traumatizing.

Those wanting to give the latest version of Nugget a try can download it for free from the project’s GitHub page. You can also join the Cowabunga Discord channel to communicate with the developer and with other users.
