g1lbertJB untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0-6.1.2 updated with support for Windows machines

While not talked about a whole lot due to the legacy firmware and devices that it supports, g1lbertJB is an untethered jailbreak that came out in 2023 that supports iPhones 3GS, 4, and 4S, as well as iPad (1st generation) and (2nd generation), and iPod touch (3rd generation) and (4th generation) running iOS 5.0-6.1.2.

The tool was significant at the time of release because it became the first tool to support jailbreaking the iPhone 4s on iOS 5.1; more than that, it was also the first publicly released untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. Despite how few people probably use it today, it’s worth noting that g1lbertJB is still actively maintained, even to this day.

An update released over this past weekend in the form of version 1.0.5 on the project’s GitHub page adds official support for Windows, as it was previously a macOS and Linux-only tool. The latest update to the tool also expands support for the macOS build for OS X 10.11 El Capitan at the bare minimum and flushes output after every write to the console. The change log also cites bug fixes for Linux builds.

Not a lot of people have working iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, or iPhone 4s models today, but if you do happen to be lucky enough to have one, you can visit the g1lbertJB GitHub page to download the correct build for your device and jailbreak it, unlocking Cydia and a full suite of jailbreak tweaks at your fingertips.
