The iDownloadBlog team covers iPhone and iPad jailbreak news as it breaks, but we also review jailbreak tweaks, write about important updates to software, and discuss our opinion on the state of events on a regular basis. But for those who can’t keep up, we have these convenient weekend roundup pieces that pull everything together into a newspaper-like compilation so you can see everything at a glance.
In this week’s roundup, we’ve got a compilation of everything new spanning this past work week, ranging from Monday, March 24th to Sunday, March 30th. We’ll begin by talking about the most important news tidbits from this past week, and then move on to an outline of the latest jailbreak tweak updates before wrapping up with a list of helpful jailbreak tweak roundups and tutorials to make it easier to get into jailbreaking.
So without further ado, let’s jump right in.
Important stuff from this week
Banking apps using sandbox escape to detect TrollStore
TrollStore perma-signing utility lead developer Lars Fröder reports that some banking apps from the App Store appear to be using a sandbox escape to detect whether the user has TrollStore installed on their device or not.
This not only infuriates TrollStore users, but it raises serious concerns for users of those apps who don’t want the app to have more privileges than it should on the user’s device.
You can learn more about this in our full news post.
Note: The finding was later confirmed and supported by a technical analysis performed by Verichains.
Ian Beer shares write-up on BLASTPASS exploit from 2023
Back in 2023, NSO made a 0-click iMessage exploit called BLASTPASS that could target individuals with sensitive material on their device. It was believed to have been actively used in the wild at the time.
This week, Google Project Zero security researcher Ian Beer has published an in-depth analysis about that exploit, and it’s a great read.
You can learn more about the announcement in our full news post.
Nugget v5 with animated wallpapers released
iOS developer LeminLimez made good on their promise to release Nugget version 5.0 on Monday with support for animated wallpapers, unlocking the capability on non-jailbroken devices running iOS & iPadOS 17.0-18.4 beta via the SparseRestore exploit.
Animated wallpapers are available for users to download, but they can also be created on Macs. This update also includes important bug fixes and improvements.
You can learn more about Nugget v5 in our full news post.
Note: Nugget v5.0.1 was also released just this past week, introducing even more bug fixes and improvements.
AppStoreTroller
With the new AppStoreTroller jailbreak tweak, it’s possible for jailbreakers on outdated firmware to bypass the iOS App Store’s “Requires iOS x.x or later” warning to install the last-compatible version of said app, if available.
This is perfect for continuing to use apps that Apple would otherwise have you upgrade your firmware to use.
