In January, Nintendo gave us our very first look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 in a teaser video following what seemed like an endless flurry of nearly accurate leaks. One of the major announcements in that teaser was that we’d get more details about the Nintendo Switch on April 2nd – that’s next week.
But according to a report first shared by Insider Gaming, it seems likely that the Nintendo Switch 2 will follow a phased three-part game release plan. The first phase will be an official launch of Nintendo’s new console in June alongside first-party game titles made by Nintendo. It’s expected that one of those titles will be a new Mario Kart game featuring the levels shown in the teaser earlier this year.
The second phase of the Nintendo Switch 2 game release plan will be between October and November, allowing third-party game studios to launch titles for the platform, followed by a third phase during the busy holiday season afterward.
While some game developers already have pre-release access to Nintendo Switch 2 dev kits, Nintendo is expected to expand access to these kits significantly by June, which means that the staggered release schedule gives most third-party game developers an equal opportunity to get games ready for the general public.
Despite the probable June launch window for the Nintendo Switch 2, Tom’s Guide spotted on the Best Buy Canada website (now removed) that pre-orders should open as early as April 2nd. So if you want to secure your place in the order list before things get too crazy, you might consider signing up for email alerts when those pre-orders begin.
If you haven’t already, you can download Nintendo’s new Nintendo Today! app to be among the first to know about the Nintendo Switch 2’s specific details when announced.
