Let’s-a go! Nintendo just dropped a new iPhone app

The new Nintendo Today! app for iPhone and Android has launched with news, videos, articles and other content on games and characters from select franchises.

The company says Nintendo Today! brings updates based on what you like, including daily news, an animated calendar, an event schedule and other features. The app is available to download from the App Store at no charge. There are no in-app purchases, but the software “may include advertising,” says the description.

Before you can use Nintendo Today!, you must sign in with your Nintendo account. If you’ve never owned any Nintendo console but have played Super Mario Run on your iPhone before, you probably already have a Nintendo account.

The animated calendar can be customized with themes like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, and more. With daily updates, Nintendo will keep you in the loop about Nintendo Switch 2 news, game information, videos, comics, etc.

There’s also a calendar widget with art from Nintendo titles that you can use to show your appreciation for a specific game right on your iPhone’s home screen. The company suggests you “try using a themed wallpaper to match.”

The schedule section is where you can learn more about upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations, game releases and in-game events, displayed based on categories or games to show events related to the game you are playing.

Basically, this is a news app that complements Nintendo’s event live streams. When the Switch 2 Direct arrives on April 2, the app will continue providing updates about Nintendo’s next console.

Pricing and availability

Nintendo Today! requires iOS 16.0 or later and is unavailable on the iPad or the Mac. A persistent internet connection is required to use the software.
