If you have a jailbroken iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max, then we’d say you have quite the unicorn in your hands. It’s the newest device that you can currently jailbreak, assuming it’s running a supported firmware; and moreover, it’s the only jailbreakable handset with the coveted Dynamic Island.
iOS developer Nathan Senter released a Dynamic Island-centric jailbreak tweak called DynamicNotLand earlier this month that disabled the Dynamic Island on these devices when not in use, but if you’re looking for something else to make the Dynamic Island better, then a new and free release called MiniIsland may intrigue you.
Nathan first announced the new MiniIsland jailbreak tweak in a post shared to social media platform 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) earlier this week, and it’s designed to make the Dynamic Island’s music player look smaller than it does out of the box.
MiniIsland achieves this feat by hiding the waveform behind the Camera, which makes is completely invisible since there isn’t a display where the front-facing camera resides on Dynamic Island-equipped handsets. As a result, the width of the Dynamic Island shrinks. You can see this in the before and after screenshot examples above.
In a discussion that I had with Nathan, I learned that the Dynamic Island’s native expansion to display the Now Playing details on the smaller iPhone 14 Pro actually causes a Status Bar element to go missing – usually the Wi-Fi indicator or a cellular indicator such as LTE or 5G. With MiniIsland installed, this is no longer the case thanks to the narrower Dynamic Island.
It’s worth noting that the larger iPhone 14 Pro Max doesn’t exhibit this behavior, even with a normal-sized Dynamic Island. This is because the display is wide enough to accommodate everything being shown to the end user.
Another pro tip: pairing MiniIsland with Nathan’s NoWaveForm jailbreak tweak makes the Dynamic Island feel smaller and more balanced, while not using the NoWaveForm jailbreak tweak keeps the blank space where the waveform used to be.
Proponents of minimalism or those who simply want to see every icon in their Status Bar at any moment will benefit most from the MiniIsland tweak, especially on the iPhone 14 Pro with its smaller display. On the other hand, the music waveform is actually quite nice to look at sometimes, so the tweak isn’t for everyone.
Those wanting to give the MiniIsland jailbreak tweak a try can download it for free from Nathan’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak supports a jailbroken iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max handsets running iOS 16.
