Most people pay no mind to device maintenance, but when you jailbreak an iPhone or iPad, there may be an enhanced need for these kinds of practices. That’s because jailbreak tweaks installed by the end user hook into system processes in ways that Apple never designed them to, increasing the chance for crashes, hangs, and other inconsistencies.
Reboot Helper (Beta) is a new jailbreak tweak by iOS developer hg13 that can perform basic and essential maintenance tasks automatically with the aid of a precision timer. These maintenance actions may include respringing the device, performing a userspace reboot, entering Safe Mode, or performing a LDRestart.
Not only can perfoming resprings and userspace reboots help ensure stability by restarting important system processes on a regular basis, but developers and more advanced users may find some use into kicking their device into Safe Mode every now and again to prevent certain jailbreak tweaks from operating at certain times.
The high-precision timer allows users to configure intervals in seconds, minutes, hours, and/or days. If timing isn’t the way you want to trigger the aforementioned events, then you can alternatively select for certain device actions to trigger them instead, such as changing Wi-Fi networks, running low on system memory, or unlocking the device.
The latter two are important, because perhaps you may want a fun and fully customized device when you’re at home and don’t need your iPhone to work as a cell phone as much, but when you’re out and about, you demand absolute device stability and the longest battery life and may want to disable jailbreak tweaks that increase your device’s crash risk in order to ensure you can always count on your iPhone to make a phone call.
Robot Helper (Beta) adds a preference pane to the Settings app (shown above) where users can configure the tweak to their liking. There’s an option to toggle the tweak on or off on demand, as well as to choose what happens and when. The layout is pretty straightforward as shown.
At the moment, Robot Helper (Beta) is considered to be in its beta stages, but the developer tells us that the core functionality is stable. That said, users should be cautious about using the tweak on primary devices.
Robot Helper (Beta) is compatible with jailbroken installations of iOS & iPadOS 13, 14, 15, and 16. Those wanting to give it a try can download it for free from the Chariz repository via their favorite package manager app.
