I’m not usually one to quote Wikipedia, but it seems to do a great job of capturing the etymology of the Cyberpunk setting. Cyberpunk evolved from the New Wave science fiction movement from the 1960s and 1970s, when popular authors including Philip K. Dick, foretold the impact of technology and drug culture, as a contrast to earlier utopian expectations of science fiction.

You may recognize the genre from Dick’s books or the recent adaptation like Electric Dreams on Prime streaming. Included in the genre would also be both the original and modern Blade Runner, Max Headroom, The Matrix trilogy, and video game Cyberpunk 2077.

The following collection of photographs was sourced from the open license gallery, unsplash.com, where photographers operate a shared community with their images. In a search for “cyberpunk,” I curated the following five images. Each image is shared here in its original size, which allows for a photo quality representation on either an iPad or iPhone.

My favorite of the cyberpunk city wallpapers is listed first. It shows a long perspective photograph down a rainy street with the scenery fading to black, against the brighthigh contrast brake lights of what could be a futuristic vehicle.
