In case you missed it, Apple Maps, Google Maps, and other United States-based mapping apps renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America following an executive order issued by current United States President Donald Trump.
While there’s been a lot of noise on both sides of the isle about the change, whether that’s against or in support of the change, the good news is that you as the end user can now do about it if you despise the new nomenclature.
A newly released jailbreak tweak called GulfOfMexico Tweak by iOS developer LNSSPsd has been released so that jailbreakers can either revert the name back to the Gulf of Mexico or rename it to something they prefer.
The screenshot example above depicts the tweak working in the Apple Maps app, and as you can see, it has been renamed “Gulf of Test!!!” just to show that you can enter whatever name you wish.
The tweak provides end users with a preference pane in which they can enter whatever name they choose, even if it isn’t “Gulf of Mexico,” which can be as creative as you want it to be.
If you’re interested in giving the new GulfOfMexico Tweak add-on a try, then you can download the .deb file for it for free from the developer’s GitHub page and install it via your favorite package manager or file manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 15 and 16 devices.
