The palera1n team released an updated beta build of the checkm8 bootrom exploit-based palera1n jailbreak tool this Sunday evening, this time bringing it up to version 2.1 beta 2.
According to the change log published on the project’s GitHub page, palera1n v2.1 beta 2 isn’t a major update, but it does include a relatively important bug fix that addresses a crash when using 12-hour time and upon opening the palera1n loader app on the Home Screen your device.
Considering the importance of the loader app with respect to maintaining your jailbreak, removing it to start over, and using a bevy of other troubleshooting tools, ensuring that it doesn’t crash when using one of the most popular ways to configure your device’s clock seems like it would be a particularly important patch for most users – except those who use 24-hour time instead, of course.
The update is therefore recommended for all palera1n users, existing and prospective. New users will be able to download the latest version from the moment they move to jailbreak their device, while existing palera1n users can download and install the latest update over their existing installation to append the latest loader app crash-busting changes.
Because the palera1n utilizes a hardware-based bootrom exploit, it’s only intended to be used on devices that are equipped with A8-A11 chips running iOS, iPadOS, or tvOS 15.0 and later (up to and including 18.x). The jailbreak is also compatible with T2 devices and bridgeOS 5.0 and later.
The palera1n is a semi-tethered rootless jailbreak, which means that you need to connect to a computer with a USB cable and re-jailbreak every time you reboot your device. But unlike a tethered jailbreak, you can still use your palera1n device in a non-jailbroken state even if you can’t get to a computer to re-jailbreak, which is at least partially more convenient despite being less convenient than a semi-untethered jailbreak or better.
You can download the latest version of palera1n from the project’s GitHub page and you can follow our step-by-step tutorial post to use it if you haven’t already jailbroken with palera1n before. Please note, however, that palera1n isn’t intended for newer handsets using an A12 chip or later, as these devices aren’t susceptible to the required checkm8 bootrom exploit.
