Unhappy with how the Zebra package manager app for jailbroken devices uses the BackBoard respring method when installing jailbreak tweaks and add-ons, iOS developer uz.ra came out this week with a brand new and free jailbreak tweak called ZebraNoRespring.

From what we can gather, ZebraNoRespring prevents the Zebra package manager app from respringing your device after installing things on your jailbroken handset that would ordinarily necessitate a respring to append to your device.
While this may seem counter intuitive, the developer noted in a post shared to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that their reason for making ZebraNoRespring was so that they could use an alternative respring method from Control Center that utilizes the FrontBoard respring method.
From what we can gather, the FrontBoard respring method isn’t quite as invasive to background processes, such as media playback. This means that you can respring your device while playing music without your playback stopping. With a BackBoard-based respring, like what Zebra uses, backgrounded apps are closed and their background activities come to an inconvenient and screeching halt.
ZebraNoRespring is unquestionably a niche tweak. It not only depends solely on Zebra package manager users, but also the even smaller subset of those who use an alternative respring method just to work around the interruption of background processes imposed by the native respring method. Still, an improvement is an improvement, especially if you’re using a FrontBoard-based respring method on your jailbroken device.
ZebraNoRespring doesn’t have any options to configure since it gets right to work after being installed. Those wanting to give it a try can download it for free from uz.ra’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak is also open source on the developer’s GitHub page.
If you aren’t already using uz.ra’s personal repository, then you can add it to your package manager app with the URL we’ve provided below:
