For those who’ve always appreciated detailed and aesthetically pleasing animations, the AquaBoard XS jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Limneos brings gorgeous liquid animation effects to your handset.

Compatible with iOS 15 and 16 devices, AquaBoard XS can augment any existing wallpaper you already have, and it pairs especially well with water-based wallpapers such as the classic goldfish wallpaper that Apple once included with iPhones right out of the box.

AquaBoard XS now only looks good, but it’s battery conscious because it disables the effect when your device goes to sleep so that it isn’t wasting resources. You can further optimize the tweak to your liking by changing the frames per second, choosing where animations do and don’t appear, and more.

If you’re somebody who listens to a lot of music, whether that’s from a third-party app such as Spotify or from a first party solution such as Apple Music, then you might take a liking to a jailbreak tweak that we like to call CanvasSync.

CanvasSync is a jailbreak tweak that can set your wallpaper as the Spotify Music app’s Spotify Canvas (when available) or the Now Playing album artwork if it wasn’t available. It not only keeps your wallpaper interesting by ensuing that it changes on a regular basis with every changing tune that you listen to, but it helps make identifying what’s playing more manageable.

CanvasSync is fully compatible with both iOS 15 and 16 devices, and if you’re interested in learning more about it, the you should head over to our full review post.

ShadowBuster

ShadowBuster before and after.

When you set a bright image as your wallpaper on your iPhone or iPad, you will find that various items that appear over the top of it might exhibit an iOS-applied shadow that helps increase contrast and make text easier to read.

While helpful in terms of legibility, the fact remains that it can make some wallpapers, especially brighter ones, look gaudy. That’s why iOS developer Lizynz released a jailbreak tweak called ShadowBuster.

Just as you might come to expect from a jailbreak tweak named ShadowBuster, this tweak eliminates the shadow effect that iOS automatically applies to bright text and items appearing over bright wallpapers.

Remove Widget Background

Have you ever wished that you could see more of your Home Screen’s wallpaper even though you use widgets? If you answered yes to that question, then you and I are in the same camp. In fact, I even avoid using Home Screen widgets for this very reason, since they block most of the wallpaper image’s subjects and details.

Fortunately, iOS developer 82flex came out with a jailbreak tweak called Remove Widget Background that can make widgets less likely to interfere with your Home Screen’s wallpaper image. It does this by making widget backgrounds transparent, so that they don’t have any unnecessary wallpaper-blocking elements.

While Remove Widget Background works with most widgets, it doesn’t work with all of them. You will have to try it on a case-by-case basis.

Exiwall

Enable iOS 16’s Lock Screen depth effect on older jailbroken devices.

Lastly, we wanted to mention Exiwall, an amazing jailbreak tweak by iOS developer FoxFortMobile that was originally intended to bring iOS 16’s Lock Screen wallpaper depth effects to jailbroken iOS 14 and 15 devices.

Despite this, even iOS 16 users can benefit from the tweak, as Exiwall can enable these depth effects on older iOS 16 devices that don’t automatically support it out of the box. For example, only the iPhone XS and newer support the depth effect, but with Exiwall, you can see it on the iPhone X and older.

In case you’re unaware of what we’re talking about, the wallpaper depth effect is the one that you see when the subject of your wallpaper appears to pop out over the top of the date and time on the Lock Screen.

You can see how this looks in our full review post.

Conclusion

While changing your wallpaper is, in and of itself, a great way to customize your iPhone or iPad, these jailbreak tweaks for iOS 15 and 16 offer a way for you to bring your wallpaper one step above the competition and have a truly unique and attention-grabbing background on your Home Screen and/or Lock Screen.
