The new Canon Live Switcher Mobile multicam software lets you easily switch between multiple iPhone and iPad cameras whilst livestreaming.

The software allows a single person to livestream from multiple angles and switch between the camera feeds easily without investing in bulkier setups. All you need is some iPhones and iPads running the app. You can also switch between the cameras on a timed delay for more professional cuts—all while livestreaming.

Future updates will bring support for Canon’s own digital cameras. Canon Live Switcher Mobile is free on the App Store, with an optional subscription to remove advertising and watermarks and unlock advanced features.

Canon’s new iPhone app brings multicam livestreaming

Live Switcher Mobile integrates with YouTube and Facebook, so you can livestream directly to those platforms. The app lets you switch between up to three different iPhones and iPads connected to the same Wi-Fi network. It also supports screen capture-streaming, which is excellent for gameplay commentary. There are multiple text styles and graphic overlays for creating custom streaming screens.

From the announcement:

With the increase in video content on social media, there has been a growing demand for livestreaming video content, such as cooking, gaming, and product reviews in which content creators can simultaneously communicate with the viewers. The Live Switcher Mobile app meets this demand by providing multi-camera switching between up to three devices, such as iPads or iPhones, all connected under the same Wi-Fi network. Simply by downloading the app to an iPhone or iPad acting as a camera, users can broadcast the footage through a livestream platform of their choosing.

The app is free to use if you can tolerate ads, video watermarks, and other restrictions. To remove advertising and watermarks and unlock all the features, you’ll need to purchase Canon’s $18/month subscription. Canon Live Switcher Mobile requires iOS 16.0 or later. Android is unsupported.

Other multicam iPhone apps

This isn’t the only iPhone software with multicam functionality. Apple’s own Final Cut Camera app can capture Log HEVC video in standalone or live multicam sessions. You can also shoot synced video on multiple iPhones using the BlackMagic Camera app, which includes advanced video recording features.

If you need a reason to use rear cameras on your spare iPads lying around somewhere, download one of these apps and set up multi-angle shots like a pro.
