To improve the CarPlay user experience, iOS developer pookjw just this week released a new and free jailbreak tweak called Cauxo that brings a full-fledged App Switcher to the CarPlay user interface.
When viewing the screenshot examples and the video demonstration shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by the developer, the only thing we thought was, “wow, this looks truly native.” Still, the developer contends that this isn’t some sort of hidden native feature, but rather a full-blown custom tweak.
The interface is not only highly responsive, but it also has exciting animation that look and feel incredibly bouncy and fluid.
Cauxo is invoked with a special button on the left side of the CarPlay interface, but underneath the apps on the Dock. When you summon the Cauxo interface, you get a horizontal view of recently used apps, including preview cards and their respective app icons, that you can scroll through or tap on to open the selected app.
Users can also use gestures on specific apps in the App Switcher to forcefully close the app, just like they can on their iPhone:
It’s not every day that we see CarPlay-based jailbreak tweaks in the wild, but we do have to say this is one of the better ones out there. Whether or not you need an App Switcher while using CarPlay remains to be seen, but it’s still particularly nice to have.
Those interested in giving Cauxo a try can download the .deb file for free from the developer’s GitHub page and then install it with their favorite package manager or file manager app. The tweak has been tested on rootless jailbreaks running iOS 16 only, so your mileage may vary with other versions.
