PoC for CVE-2024-54498 macOS Sandbox escape published

A security researcher has published a Proof of Concept for CVE-2024-54498, a 1day security vulnerability that Apple has patched in macOS Sequoia 15.2, Sonoma 14.7.2, and Ventura 13.7.2.

The security vulnerability encompasses a Sandbox escape, which could grant an application more capabilities to access off-limits data on a compromised machine and risk the user’s personal security.

Security researcher reverse engineers Apple’s ACE3 USB-C controller

The ACE3 USB-C controller powers all the functions that make the USB-C connectivity on M3 and newer Macs and even the iPhone 15 and later possible.

Security researcher Thomas Roth managed to not only dump the ROM of the ACE3, but also achieve persistence in hacks applied to the affected device by bypassing SoC security mitigations in doing so.
