It was just over a month ago that Apple platform Developer Simon Støvring released a Mac app called Festivitas that brought animated festive lights to various interface elements of the macOS platform.
Festivas was an instant hit right before the holidays, and we’ve been closely monitoring not only Støvring’s continued efforts to update the software with more features, but we’ve also witnessed yet another fun and quirky piece of software that some Mac users may find entertaining.
In a post shared to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) this week, Støvring revealed that he made an app for macOS that lets him “smash” the display when he gets frustrated. Obviously intended as a joke, this app lets the end user take a virtual hammer to their display, which causes the window they’re using to fragment into dozens of pieces that fall.
The user can then use what appears to be a broom tool to clean up the mess, which resets the window back to how it was before breaking it into dozens of pieces.
While this app doesn’t appear to have a name just yet, the demonstration video reveals a menu in the macOS Menu Bar with a Settings option, which can only speculate may allow users to customize the window shattering experience.
A follow-up post showed that the app also works with multiple displays, so it’s possible for the end user to smash those displays one at a time for their entertainment.
While the app serves no productive purpose and is for entertainment purposes only, I personally find these types of apps to be both exciting and fun. It remains to be seen if Støvring plans to release this app like he did Festivitas, but I’d certainly line up for a copy if that were the case.
