CanvasSync sets Spotify’s Canvas or other Music apps’ Now Playing album artwork as your wallpaper

Music listeners who primarily use the Spotify application to stream their favorite songs, and who also have a jailbroken device at their disposal, have a strong potential to be able to enjoy a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called CanvasSync by iOS developer pkgFiles.

Designed to help make the music listening experience better than ever for jailbroken device users, CanvasSync can showcase your Now Playing album artwork or Spotify Canvas (whichever applies to you) as your device’s wallpaper on the Home Screen and Lock Screen alike.

When it comes to the Spotify application, the Spotify Canvas will be prioritized when and if it applies to your track. When it doesn’t, or when you’re using a music player besides Spotify, CanvasSync utilizes the Now Playing artwork instead. This means that, yes, you can use with Apple Music and other music player apps too!

In the case of the screenshot examples above, a Canvas in the Spotify application applies not only to the background of the Spotify application, but also to the Lock Screen’s wallpaper. The same would be true if there weren’t a canvas – the album artwork of the Now Playing track would be used instead.

Once installed, CanvasSync adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure the tweak however they want:

Things you can do here include:

  • Toggle CanvasSync on or off on demand
  • Choose where CanvasSync takes effect:
    • On the Lock Screen
    • On the Home Screen
    • On both of the above
  • Configure the appearance of CanvasSync:
    • Choose what CanvasSync shows:
      • The album artwork
      • The Spotify Canvas
      • Whichever is available
    • Toggle gradient effect on or off on demand
    • Adjust the gradient effect’s strength:
      • Low
      • Medium
      • High
    • Hide the Home Screen’s Dock background
  • Respring your device to save any changes you’ve made

According to the developer in their /r/jailbreak release post, CanvasSync is heavily inspired by Sugiuta’s CanvasLife jailbreak tweak that we showed you back in the iOS 14 days. CanvasSync is supported on iOS 15 and 16 devices, and has been tested on various jailbreaks including palera1n, Dopamine, XinaA15, and Zinam1ne.

Those interested in giving the CanvasSync tweak a try can download it for free from pkgFiles’ personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak is also fully open source on the developer’s GitHub page for anybody who wants to learn more about the inner workings.
