Have you ever wanted to spawn phony notifications on your iPhone or iPad from your favorite apps? If so, then a new and open-source project called Spawn Me by iOS developer ItsKofo might be of interest to you.
You can use this sideloadable application to craft tailor-made notifications that appear to come from apps installed on your device. It doesn’t require a jailbreak, and best of all, it seems straightforward and intuitive.
Once installed, you can open the Spawn Me application and create a new template for your phony notification. Things you can do with this include:
- Setting a notification title
- Entering notification text content
- Choosing a notification delay
- Choosing a notification app icon
- And more…
In the /r/jailbreak release post, the developer notes how Spawn Me currently works with the Revolute and Instagram apps, with support for WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and others currently in the works.
You can save and re-use templates in the future, and the developer also plans to implement recurring notifications as well as iCloud Sync and custom sounds and and icons for further customization in a future update.
For a sideloadable app, it seems like Spawn Me offers a lot of potential for fun and excitement, but may also be useful for certain workflows or for getting yourself out of awkward social events.
Those interested in giving Spawn Me a try can download the .ipa file to be sideloaded from the project’s GitHub page, where it is completely open source. You can install this with well-liked utilities such as AltStore, Sideloadly, and even TrollStore.
