Popular game emulator app Delta by iOS developer Riley Testut and company has received an important update on Tuesday that officially brings it up to version 1.6.5.
According to a post shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by the AltStore Team’s account, Delta v1.6.5 introduces the ability for Patrons in the United States to access exclusive features – the first time ever that Patrons outside of the European Union have been able to access benefits of this nature.
Among the ‘exclusive features’ that Delta v1.6.5 unlocks for United States-based users is access to online multiplayer for fellow Nintendo DS game players, access to experimental features that aren’t yet fully tested, and exclusive app icons that help you show off your Patron status.
If, like me, you were excited for the Nintendo DS online multiplayer feature, then you’ll be happy to know you can play with other players across the entire globe. Online gaming is limited to fellow Delta users, so you can’t play online with other Nintendo DS owners, which is to be expected.
As it would seem, the Epic vs. Apple saga is the entire reason that Delta can offer these Patreon-based benefits to users in the United States. While you can certainly make a purchase this way in the app, Apple tries their hardest to convince users that making purchases outside of the App Store can be dangerous. Obviously, this isn’t the case if you trust the seller, as you should in this case.
In order to make this possible, Apple requires Delta to offer in-app purchase subscriptions in the app, giving users the option of buying through the App Store. To help guide users in the right direction, the prices of the in-app purchases have been tripled in the Delta app to corral more users toward the cheaper Patreon route.
Patreon aside, Delta v1.6.5 includes some changes for non-patrons as well, which include:
- A new Resume Game button so that you can quickly resume a game where you left off
- Dark and tinted variants of the primary app icon are now included by default
- Fix mappings for default controller skins
- And more…
If you’re not already using the Delta emulator app, then you can download it for free from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. The app supports emulating a plethora of different retro consoles, including the following:
- Nintendo Entertainment System
- Super Nintendo Entertainment System
- Nintendo 64
- Game Boy (Color)
- Game Boy Advance
- Nintendo DS
- And plenty more to come!
You can source your own ROMs at your own risk, we show you how to load your own in a step-by-step tutorial.
