One of the things that I’ve always found useful when watching videos on YouTube, especially when the subject rambles on about things that don’t matter to me before getting to the interesting part, is the ability to adjust the video playback speed.
Changing the video playback speed isn’t hard, but requires a lot of taps from the native user interface, which is one reason iOS developer PoomSmart made a free jailbreak tweak called YouSpeed that provides faster access to the YouTube video playback speed setting.
As shown in the screenshot example above, YouSpeed adds the video playback speed option directly to the video overlay interface with its own dedicated button, reducing the effort required to change the video’s playback speed.
Upon tapping on the button, a list of playback speed options populates, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your needs, whether that’s speeding the video up to get past some rambling or slowing the video down to see a great scene in slow motion.
Because YouSpeed integrates directly into the native video overlay interface, it almost looks like a native setting. As a result, it’s not only useful, but also pleasant to the eyes.
Once installed, you will need to enable the YouSpeed tweak from the Video Overlay preference pane in the YouTube app, otherwise the tweak will not work at first (ask me how I know):
If you’re interested in giving the new YouSpeed jailbreak tweak a try, then you can download it for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken devices running all current versions of the YouTube app, however we should note that any future update to YouTube may break the tweak, requiring an update.
If you aren’t already using PoomSmart’s personal repository, then you can add it to your package manager app by using the URL provided below:
