Apple fans in Taiwan will be able to purchase the Vision Pro headset beginning Tuesday, December 17, in time for the holidays.
According to the announcement published in the Newsroom section of Apple’s Taiwanese website, the augmented-reality headset will be available to pre-order this Thursday, December 5, starting at 9 a.m. local time.
Pricing for the base headset with 256 gigabytes of onboard storage has been set at NT$119,900, which works out to about $3,670. This isn’t such a big difference from Vision Pro’s $3500 price in the United States.
Like in other markets, Apple will offer its Taiwanese customers versions with 512GB and 1TB storage and accessories like Zeiss optical inserts. Moreover, the company will offer 3-minute Vision Pro demos in its two retail stores in Taipei.
Vision Pro expanding internationally
Vision Pro arrived in February in the United States with favorable reviews. Instead of conquering this market from the low end, Apple took its usual approach, calling for a premium device. However, this strategy has limited Vision Pro’s appeal beyond early adopters who can stomach the high price and lack of compelling content.
Since its debut, Vision Pro has expanded to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore. Recently, the headset has been officially available in South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that the first Vision Pro was not designed as a mass-market product.
