AltStore Classic updated to v2.0.2 to fix crashing issues from previous v2.0.1 release

Just last week, the AltStore team released AltStore Classic version 2.0.1 with several bugs fixes and improvements, including support for dark mode & tinted app icons in iOS 18 and support for Home Screen Quick Actions with support information.

The AltStore Team announces AltStore Classic v2.0.2 on X.

Unfortunately, many users quickly found the update bittersweet, as it had caused crashing issues. This forced the AltStore team to temporarily pull the update while they worked on a solution – one that finally appears to be available starting today.

In a post shared to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the AltStore team said that the new AltStore Classic v2.0.2 build addresses the problematic crashing that took place in version 2.0.1. The full change log for this release is as follows:

AltStore version 2.0.2

– Fixed runtime crashes with AltStore 2.0.1
– Fixed “Handshake Failed” error when signing in

If you’re already an AltStore Classic user, then you should seriously install this update to not only gain the features that version 2.0.1 was made to incorporate, but also to fix the issues that version 2.0.1 brought to the table. Now that the crashing issues are fixed, everyday users are safe to use the latest version of AltStore again.

AltStore, as a sideloading utility, allows iPhone and iPad owners to install .ipa files on their device using the free Apple Developer account linked to their Apple ID. This allows for installing a limited number of apps using the Apple ID that need to be re-signed every seven days. AltStore and AltServer make this a seamless process.

Sideloading is just one of the ways that iPhone and iPad users can install apps on their device outside the purview of the App Store. For this reason, sideloaded apps don’t go through the same review process that App Store apps do, a difference that Apple says makes or breaks user security. Clearly, that a subjective point of view, especially when you want users to download from your own App Store.
