Google Gemini is now its own standalone app on iPhone

Gemini is a new iPhone app from Google that offers an AI-powered digital assistant, AI image generation via Imgen 3 and other capabilities.

You can download Gemini Live for iPhone by following this App Store link. Gemini (formerly Bard) was previously available on iPhone through the Google mobile app or a web browser. With the new app, you can access Gemini Live natively on your iPhone (Gemini remains available within the main Google app).

Gemini Live enables a more natural way to have free-flowing voice conversations where Gemini adapts to your conversational style in real time. “It’s great for when you want to practice for an upcoming interview, ask for advice on things to do in a new city or brainstorm and develop creative ideas,” reads the announcement.

“This isn’t just another AI chatbot app,” Google writes. “Gemini is a true personal AI assistant that can brainstorm ideas with you, generate creative images and even help with daily tasks like setting reminders, scheduling meetings or composing emails.”

The app features a simplified homepage, dominated by a text field at the bottom inviting you to ask Gemini anything you like. You can also accompany your text query by attaching pictures to the prompt.

“Gemini makes learning easier, enabling you to ask questions about any subject and get tailored study plans,” reads Google’s pitch. “Gemini can also provide custom, step-by-step guidance that adapts to your learning style, and you can even test your knowledge with quizzes. For example, you can attach a complex diagram and ask Gemini to quiz you on it.”

Conversation history is available by touching the Chats & Gems option in the top-left corner. And with Gemini Extensions, you can access content from Google’s services like YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, Calendar and others.

Gemini Live uses Apple’s Live Activity feature to let you ask questions while multitasking. For responses, it offers ten voices in English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Turkish or Vietnamese.
