Have you ever wondered to yourself how much better the iPhone’s keyboard could be if only Apple allowed software plugins to extend its functionality? Well wonder no more…

You might have thought about third-party keyboard replacements that were once all the rage in the App Store upon reading the first sentence in this post, but I personally never thought any of those were quite as good as using the original keyboard. I’d personally much prefer simply augmenting Apple’s own keyboard, which is why I love jailbreak tweaks like SquidExtender by iOS developer SquidForce.
This tweak is described as an immersive and highly customizable interface that meshes right into the native keyboard on your device, and it offers extended features that can make any form of text input or text editing substantially better without totally replacing your keyboard interface with something that looks and feels alien.
As you can see in the screenshot examples above, SquidExtender simply adds to the existing keyboard. The additional rows make space for new buttons and shortcuts that power users will love. Among some of the functions that you can take advantage of are:
- Smart Copy
- Paste
- Select All and Paste
- Smart Cut
- Clear All
- Restore Input
- Undo
- Redo
- Smart Cursor to Start Position
- Smart Cursor to End Position
- Dismiss Keyboard
- New Line
- Customize Texts Input
- Smart Cursor Left
- Smart Cursor Right
- Cursor Up
- Cursor Down
- Select Text
- Select Line
- Select All
- Adjust Selection Range
- JavaScript Script
- Trigger CopyVault
- Translate
- ChatGPT
- And more…
According to the developer, users can tap, swipe, long press, and use pop-up menus. Users can choose their preferred function based on their operating habits, so if you like tapping, you can use that, or if you prefer swiping, then you can use that instead.
Thanks to being highly customizable SquidExtender lets you make the interface your own. You can choose your look and feel, operations, and even your shortcuts. You can also take advantage of convenient input features, which offer manipulation of selected text, modification of clipboard text, and cursor positioning, among other things.
Certain features, such as Translating text and ChatGPT support are coming soon and remain under development currently.
SquidForce is no stranger to enhancing accessibility on iPhones by either improving the existing user interface or adding new shortcuts and features to it. Just look at the previously released SquidGesture Pro add-on, which gave users a plethora of power user shortcuts all in one convenient place. With that in mind, I think SquidExtender is in a class all its own.
Those interested in giving SquidExtender a try for themselves can purchase the tweak for $5.99 from the Havoc repository. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14, 15, and 16 devices only, and it has not been tested on the Serotonin semi-jailbreak.
