There are a lot of instances where I tap on a link in an app or on a website, and rather than opening that link in a new tab in my web browsing app, it launches a specific application on my device to load content instead.
A grand example of this is when I tap on an App Store link; doing this causes the App Store to open instead of loading the depiction page in my web browser.
This can be frustrating when you intended to use the web view instead of the native app view, and for that reason, iOS developer 82flex has just released a new and free jailbreak tweak called No Redirect that can be used by end users to restrict apps from being launched by other apps on your device.
Once installed, No Redirect adds a preference pane to the Settings app where it can configured to your liking, as depicted above. Things you can do there include:
- Toggle No Redirect on or off on demand
- Configure application settings on a per app basis:
- Block selected apps from launching others
- Block selected apps from being launched
- Simulate a successful redirect so that the calling app thinks it was successful (to mitigate error messages and reduce fallback method execution)
- Enable common block for App Store redirects
- Enable common block for Safari redirects
- Add and edit custom blocks
- Reset all options to their defaults
- And more…
With the powerful settings offered by No Redirect, there’s a lot you can do to curb unwanted redirects to other applications that you have no intention of using.
Those interested in giving No Redirect a try can currently download it for free from the Havoc repository via their preferred package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14-16 devices and is open source on the developer’s GitHub page for those wanting to learn more about how it works under the hood.
