SilentNotifs prevents push notification sounds from interrupting your music playback

I’m When you’re right in the middle of your jam, there’s no worse feeling than when the sound of a push notification interrupts that rad bass drop. You could rewind the music… but it just isn’t the same as a full playthrough.

Spotify and Apple Music, two popular music apps that could benefit from SilentNotifs.

Knowing just how annoying this experience can be, iOS developer dayanch96 released a free jailbreak tweak called SilentNotifs. This tweak effectively silences push notification sounds when your device is playing any kind of media, which effectively dodges the unwanted noise interruptions that can ruin the listening experience of a good song.

In the /r/jailbreak release post, dayanch96 said that the tweak is an open-source alternative to NoInterruptWhenPlayingMusic by iOS developer noahacks, a similar jailbreak tweak that offered like-minded functionality, albeit without being open source.

Importantly, the newer SilentNotifs isn’t just open source, but it’s fully compatible with rootless jailbreaks on the latest iterations of iOS & iPadOS. While it has already been tested on iOS & iPadOS 14.8 and 16.4.1, it’s expected that the tweak will also work on newer versions of iOS & iPadOS, although untested.

The concept of preventing notification sounds from interrupting your media playback certainly isn’t new. We’ve been showing you jailbreak tweaks of the like for years. A good example was QuietWhilePlaying by iOS developer ijapija00 back in 2017, and we’re sure there are several other examples that we could also reference.

In a follow-up post shared to /r/jailbreak, dayanch96 said that alarm checking had been added in version 0.0.2 to prevent users from missing their iPhone alarms – an important feature! After all, who wants to be late for work just because they were listening to their jam?

With no options to configure, this no-nonsense jailbreak tweak helps jailbreakers enjoy their music and media interruption-free, and with the confidence to follow through with their guitar solos and bass drops without any anxiety that they might find themselves starting the song all over again to get the full enjoyment of their listening experience.

Those interested in giving SilientNotifs a try can download it for free from the developer’s GitHub page, which is the same place where users can find the source code to learn more about what makes it tick. You can download the .deb manually, and then install it with whatever package manager app you might be using on your jailbroken device. Easy!
