While the palera1n jailbreak has proven to be resilient for arm64 (A11 and older) devices due to being based on a bootrom hardware-based exploit called checkm8 that can’t be patched by Apple with a mere software update, the fact remains that a lot of people are turned off by it being a command line-based jailbreak tool as opposed to offering an easy click-based graphical user interface (GUI) like checkra1n once did.
Fortunately, /u/quick_Supermario80 was interested in making a simple GUI for the palera1n jailbreak that works with both macOS and Linux, offering the same essential commands as the command line interface (CLI), but with a user-friendly clickable interface that might pique the interest of more compatible device users to try jailbreaking with palera1n for the first time.
While this certainly isn’t an official project (as noted by the red “unofficial project” text in the middle of the GUI), it is based on the latest version of palera1n at the time of this writing. The developer also shares in the /r/jailbreak release post that the palera1n GUI uses SwiftUI for macOS and HTML for Linux, which is just something to keep in mind.
The palera1n GUI supports rootful and rootless essential commands. In the Rootful commands section, you can Create FakeFS, Create BindFS, Boot Only, or Force Revert. In the Rootless & More commands section, you can Boot, Force Revert, and Exit Recovery.
While we generally don’t advocate for using third-party utilities that mirror the real thing, it’s worth noting that this particular palera1n GUI is open source for the world to see what’s happening behind the scenes. That said, if something were shady about it, someone could be quick to point it out and that hasn’t happened yet.
Those interested in taking a peek can visit the project’s GitHub page.
It’s worth noting that an official GUI for the palera1n jailbreak is in the works, but we haven’t heard anything about it since December of 2022, and there still isn’t an ETA for when that might be coming. The palera1n team has spent most of its time keeping the jailbreak updated to support newer versions of iOS & iPadOS on supported devices, adding tvOS support, and other things.
Are you planning to use this third-party palera1n GUI? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
