Keeping tabs on the latest news in iPhone & iPad jailbreaking is one of our favorite pastimes here at iDownloadBlog. For that reason, it’s a lot of what we do here, and jailbreakers will feel right at home throughout our regular news cycle.
Every Sunday morning, we create a weekly news roundup that provides our readers with a comprehensive outline of everything that went on in the now-past work week, offering a convenient place to get caught up on everything new.
This Sunday, we have precisely one of those roundups, encompassing everything new in the iPhone & iPad jailbreak communities spanning the week of Monday, September 23rd to Sunday, September 29th.
Important stuff from this week
How to jailbreak iOS 15.0-16.5.1 with Xinam1ne
Xinam1ne is a jailbreak tool based on the popular Dopamine jailbreak, and it works with arm64e (A12-A15 and M1) devices running iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.5.1.
This tool is unique in that it enables features not present in Dopamine, such as installing alternative package manager apps from the start, using rootful jailbreak tweaks, and making use of a different theme.
You can learn more about Xinam1ne and how it use it in our full tutorial post.
SparseRestore exploit patched
Apple patched the SparseRestore exploit in iOS & iPadOS 18.1 beta 5, the same exploit used by TrollRestore to install TrollStore on iOS & iPadOS 17.0 and to install hacks and add-ons by way of tools like MisakaX and Nugget.
This means that SparseRestore will not support any firmware newer than iOS & iPadOS 18.1 beta 4 and has implications for iPhone hacks going forward.
You can learn more about those implications in our full news post.
AltStore v2.0 released
Version 2.0 of the all-time popular AltStore Classic sideloading utility for iPhones and iPads was updated to version 2.0 over the weekend with one of the largest and most substantial change logs to date. It comes in celebration of the platform’s 5-year anniversary, too!
This update not only ports many features from AltStore PAL to AltStore Classic, but it improves the platform in many ways for end users.
You can learn more about what’s new in AltStore version 2.0 in our full news post.
PureKFD v6 released
PureKFD, the jailed package manager app that previously utilized the MacDirtyCow and Kernel File Descriptor exploits, has been updated to version 6 this week with support for the SparseRestore exploit.
Moreover, this update gives the app a redesign, as it has been completely re-written from scratch.
You can learn more about PureKFD v6 in our full news post.
palera1n updates
The palera1n checkm8 bootrom exploit-based jailbreak for arm64 devices running iOS & iPadOS 15 and later received an update this past week with bug fixes and improvements that all users should want to take advantage of.
You can learn about the latest changes in the palera1n jailbreak in our full news post.
Nugget Mobile
Nugget Mobile is a newly released app that can utilize the SparseRestore exploit on iOS & iPadOS 16.0-18.1 beta 4 devices to make customizations without a jailbreak.
You can learn more about Nugget Mobile, including the rewards and potential for risks, in our full review post.
iOS 17.6.1 unsigned
Apple on Monday stopped signing both builds of the iOS & iPadOS 17.6.1 firmware for iPhones and iPads, effectively ending the ability of ordinary users to downgrade from the newer iOS & iPadOS 17.7 or 18.0 firmware.
This would ordinarily affect jailbreakers, except that there was never a jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 17.6.1 on modern, non-checkm8-vulnerable devices.
You can learn more about this news in our full news post.
MobileMeadow Reborn
MobileMeadow Reborn revives a popular jailbreak tweak concept that brought animated plants and animals to various interfaces on the iPhone and iPad to give users a more nature-friendly experience.
Not only can you have animated plants growing out of your Home Screen’s Dock, but you can have animals traversing the Tab Bar in any of your apps.
You can learn more about MobileMeadow Reborn in our full review post.
RingerToggle (CCSupport)
You can now get a ringer/silent toggle button in your jailbroken device’s Control Center interface with the help of the new RingerToggle (CCSupport) add-on for CCSupport.
This toggle is typically reserved for devices with an Action Button since the Action Button’s functionality can be reassigned from ringer/silent to other things. But now, it can be on any device.
You can learn more about RingerToggle (CCSupport) and where you can get it from in our full review post.
FrontBoardAppLauncher
Using only TrollStore, iOS developer Duy Tran was able to enable windowed multitasking on iPhones and iPads without a jailbreak following several weeks’ worth of reverse engineering.
The project, called FrontBoardAppLauncher, is currently open source and being actively pursued. It’s already being used in some hacks and add-ons that can be installed via TrollStore.
You can learn more about FrontBoardAppLauncher in our full review post.
